is it a problem with the clip, or has the heatsink become stuck to the cpu?

Is there a thermal pad under it? If so, that's why it's sticking. You're going to need to pull the little metal bar that puts pressure on the pins on the socket UP so the CPU can slide out. Then after you do that put the CPU w/ heatsink in an airtight bag, then in the freezer. Let it stay in there for about 5 hours or however long it takes for the thermal pad to freeze. Then you should be able to take the heatsink off with ease.

Sounds like a clip problem Kage.

Put your screwdriver carefully in the notch and slowly and firmly press downward (careful not to slip off and put a brand new hole in your mobo). After the clip moves down tilt the handle of the screwdriver towards the heatsink which should move the clip off the nubs. then just slowly release downward pressure. Then the clip and heatsink should come right off.

If it's being stubborn, and you may have to use a little extra force, slide a little bit of cardboard up against the socket, to cover that piece of the motherboard, just in case your screwdriver slips. Cardboard is cheap, mobos a little less so...
