Default Titanium Case?

I've been looking at Titanium Wedding bands since I break, disfigure and destroy gold and silver rings (even with steal shanks in them).

The other day I purchased a somewhat plain band to wear to see what kind of damage I can do to a Titanium Ring before spending the big money on a good wedding band.

This all got me thinking...

Has anyone tried or have seen a case made from 99% pure Titanium or 90% Aircraft Grade Titanium? Titanium is so damn light, durable, and can be polished to a miror finish!

I wanna say I have, but I cant remember for sure. Im at work so I cant go through my fav's to see if I have or not. The only thing I can see as a down side would be the cost to have the stuff cut. I wanna say you need diamond tipped cuttings wheels to cut it. I may be wrong.

Never heard of either...except for that Apple PowerBook...google reveals a company - Avus - that has a titanium case, but can't find pics...may just be painted...

Maverick...I know titanium is a Biach to cut and would be pretty expensive to do unless you had a contact somewhere.

pimp_joose...I'm not sure if the Apple Powerbook was actually made of titanium or was just colored titanium? I have never took interest into anything Apple has created.

I was pretty sure you knew that it was tuff to cut. I was stating what I knew. I wanna say the case I say was a Lian Li or one of its copy cats. I seem to remember it looking like that.

Titanium steel alloys generally take a HECK of alot of heat [3000F I think] to form. It's hard to cut. And as I recall it is HEAVY, not light. It's only advantage is in being indestructable.

There was a Titanium case at xoxide.com but that was just some name knock off...it wasn't titanium, but it had the color of it. All I can say is that you aren't going to find a Titanium case anywhere. Titanium pedals for BMX bikes cost ~$100 so I'd say if you want a Titanium case it will run you $2000(very crappy guess, I know, but just a rough estimate). Unless you can find someone who will do the work for free and give you a nice discount, (quote the only good song from Aerosmith) Dream On

Titanium steel, per cubic inch, is heavier than stainless or whatever they put in the cases.

But because it is so rigid, you can use alot fewer cubic inches to do a particular job.

I think ...

Anyway, as long as we're talking exotic metals, Magnesium alloy might be a better choice?

We got a material eng. on here to straighten this out? Maybe I better google some stats.

EDIT: Ah yes straight from da guv'ment

Titanium

Specifically ...

Titanium is as strong as steel, but 45% lighter. It is 60% heavier than aluminum, but twice as strong.

Titanium case

I don't know if this is what you want. It says Titanium and it is light.

http://www.newegg.com/app/viewproduc...g%29%2C%2C%2Cw There you go taz. Its got a titanium coating on all the panels. Its not pure titanium like you wanted, but I think thats as close as you will get.

Thanks all for the info. I can dream about a titanium case. Once I've seen what can be done with Jewerly, a case made of titanium would be trully pimp!

ok i really cant justify why you need a titanuium case. titanium looks ALOT like aluminum and if you anno it it looks the same. it wont be that much lighter. but if you want to build one see if you have a local water jet cutter. their rates are usually better than the laser cutters. i guess it would be cool to say your case is made of titanium.
