Default Non-parallel mounting and drive reliability

As shown in my project log, I'm in the process of inverting an Antec SX1000-II. I'm drilling new holes in the 3.5" cages so you can still mount three drives and have them "face up" even with the cage upside down.

Since my tools are crude, my strength (and ability to control a bucking Dremelalike) limited, and my measurement by eyeball, I expect that some of the mounts will be far from perfectly parallel with the "floor".

If the drive is, say, 15 degrees off plane (probably a massive exaggeration; I'd expect 5 is more likely) in either or both front-to-back or left-to-right, will it make an effect on noise or reliability?

Should matter which way they're mounted... upside-down, on it's side, at an angle... whatever. As long as the drive isn't moving while it's turned on, you won't run into any problems. As soon as you start moving the drive around while it's turned on, the platters may warp and cause damage.

Ive run drives sideways and upside down.

It never seemed to have any effect ,the sideways ones have been running for 2 years.

In peace, nothing so becomes a man as modesty and humility, but when the blast of war blows in our ears, then imitate the action of the tiger, summon up the blood, disguise fair nature with rage and lend the eye a terrible aspect.

It might be interesting to do some actual scientific research.

I need a government grant to buy 20 cases and about a hundred 750G Barracudas.
