Default Painting Screws

Will the paint wear off if I paint screws? I was thinking 2 coats of color and 1 coat of clear would make for excellent screws. I could spray paint them pretty easily. Does anyone have any experience in this area?

I think the paint will come off no matter what if you keep screwing or unscrewing. But what you said should be enough to screw them in and leave them. Look for Annodized Screws that crap will never come off...

Yes Ive done this before on my racebikes.

If you dont use powder coat ,it'll crack and flake after 1 or 2 uses of the screw,no matter how well you prep it.
Although if your really carefull on assembly, the tiny scratches/chips can be painted over with a small Model type paintbrush.

heres how ive done it.

Your best bet is to abrade/blast the surface of the screws. Protect the threads!!!.
Clean in acetone .
Punch holes slightly smaller then the screws in some card board .
Place the screws in the cardboard so their held firmly in place and the threads remain paint free.
paint with 2 light coats color epoxy ,1 coat clearcoat epoxy .(follow manufacturers dry time between coats)
Place in preheated 250f oven for 1 hour ,You MUST USE a thermometer !!!
*** DONT leave unattended.paint and cardboard will burn real nice if you get over 400f. ***
Let cool and sit for 24 hours before touching.
Thats about as tough a finish you can get at home with cheap spraycan paint.

You could go to the dollar store, buy an AL pan and do the same thing. Its a lower Fire risk for a buck.

Hey I was wondering if this same concept could be applied to rivets too?

For Rivets just put some felt around the pole thinger you pull on so the tool doesnt hit the rivet top
