| Welcome kool!! I can tell you youve come to the right place dude! Your definitly right to start on you old 486 case.....i can tell you as can many members that your it takes some time getting used to cutting. As for ideas....what would you like your case to look like? Its all up to you, your the one who's gonna have to live with it My recommendation is to look through the Case Gallaery and see what you like then come up with some original...... | ||

| KOOL, just remember that if you decide to go with wood, you will need a real good case cooling schematic. Wood acts as an insulator and the inside of the case would heat WAY up. I've seen some pretty nice wooden cases, but ensure you got plenty of airflow through it. | ||

Would four 80mm case fans and the PS fan cut it?

This is gonna be commen sence to most of you guys, but for you n00bs this is a good design for airflow thourgh your case.......this is with only 2 casefans + PSU intake and outake fan, no matter how many fans you put in its still good to follow this general flow. If anyone disagrees with me speak up.... ![]() "In with good air, out with the bad air. In with the Good air, out with the bad air" ![]()

| Apex Techie Lite | yes im a n00bie, and this is all extreamly great info, keep the tips comming. im saving any diagrams i get from the thread.!! thanx scapegoat fro that wonder good/bad air rule i already have my case setup that way and was going to change it.. so im glad you spoke up.. any more air cooling ideas lemmie knwo. also just incase anyone wanted to knwo im running: Pent lll 1Ghz (celron) hey im cheep ! 512 ram geforce 256 dual IDE 80 Gigs 7200 10/100 NIC burner 16X10X40 16 DVD ROM 48 X CDROM 2 x IDE interface (RAID) -yes it works great- 800 Watt sround home threater system (sounds wicked) im still stuck on electronics tho. i dont really want to pay rip-off shacks prices and im so dumb i just cant get the hang of the 555 timer. any help with it or should i start a new thread on that ? one more thing .. i was thinking about mounting a wooden carving on the box, not maming thebox outa wood,, sory for the miss understanding, but wood / insulating was a very good point | |

| As of right now I have 19 fans in Midnight Blue. Of course that includes the hard drive coolers, 4 fans in the 2 power supplies, northbridge fan, ram cooler, 2 120mm on the external radiator, and GPU fan. My major airflow comes from 2 120mm intakes front bottom and side, and a 120mm chimney with a couple of 80's above the power supplies. The bottom to top airflow works well with most PC's, but there has been discussion here before about "negative airflow", and other folks had issues with that, but here is how I modeled my airflow. I have more air flowing into the case than can be exhausted. There are a two reasons for this, the pressure inside the case keeps the dust out, and I think the ample supply of cooler excess external air helps keep it cooler, as the air will rise when heated. Don't know if there is any credence to this, but at this moment my case temp is 23C. That shows that the air inside is pretty close to ambient. Before the comments about noise start, I am running all the bigger fans on a rheobus and baybus. It actually doesn't make much noise at all when I keep the fans on "reasonable" settings. Course when I crank them all up it sounds like a windtunnel. But damn, you can see the temps drop quickly! | ||

| Apex Techie Lite | well a big thanx goes out all the guys that help out with reassureing comments and info on safty, heating and dremelin. here is my first set of given'er shots i did this cable cuz im a broke-azz and cant afford alot of neet things. so i make em. next is the case cut. its susposed to be an oval. but since nothing is glued yet and the case still needs sanding and paint, i have lots of time to work it out with the dremel, any ideas on what bits to use ? sorry for the big ass pics but i wanted to show it off large thanx again for the info and comments | |
