| ClowN -- he's talking something like an LCD TV they have in cars these days, not a 20x4 kind of LCD. Abyssling -- I know Circuit City is damned expensive, but they sell the kits you were referring to that installl them in the car and they use standard RCA inputs. If you are planning on hooking this up to your computer then as long as you have RCA outut (or some other output format that can get an adaptor to RCA) on the videocard you should be set. I'm bored today so I'll more then likely have some time to look online for a few sources too and I'll post if I find anything. | ||

| those are the ones I would have looked for. it says they get 224,640 DPI... anyone know the math to convert that to a dimensional resolution? It's a 5" monitor at 224,640 dots (pixels?) per inch... that seems wrong.. that would make it well into the megapixels (1,123,200x1,123,200 if 1 "dot" = 1 pixel) so I assume that it isn't a direct conversion... | ||

| this is what I got in the mail a couple of days ago ![]() Customize your mobile sound system with high resolution, flat screen color display for TV/video. Complete color video displays make great personal rear seat TV screens. Works on a standard composite video signal from any VCR, video camera, or navigation system. Features high resolution, speedy response time, no radiation, low power consumption (less than 750mA), and wide view angle (45° Left/Right, 30° Top, 10° bottom). Specifications: 12 VDC supply, operating temperature 0°C - 60°C, composite video signal 1V P-P 75 ohm, TFT active matrix system display method, RGB stripe color configuration, NTSC * Power Consumption: 12VDC, 500mA * Overall Dimensions (mm): 118W x 85H x 40D * Active Area (mm): 113.3W x 84.7H * Resolution (dots): 960V x 234V=224,640 * Dot Pitch (mm): .138 W x .416 H * Contrast Ratio: 30 * Response Time (mS): 30 Rise, 40 Fall It came with an rca adaptor, as far as i can tell i should be able to just hook it up to an svideo to rca adaptor and plug it into the tv out on my vid card right? *EDIT* Btw I got the 5.6 viewable, they are 150 dollars, the 5inch screens are only 100. The one i got didnt come with anything except the pic above, an rca adaptor and a schematic sheet telling you which wires were dc+12, gnd, video gnd, and video in. the video in and video grn connect to a plug that connects to the rca adaptor so outside of plugging that into the back of a vid card the only thing left to worry with is the power connectors problem is there is no external power connectors so i guess i'm gonna have to take the lcd apart to dig up the red and back wires. seems pretty straightforward other than that though. fairly easy mod. also there are tiny screws on the back of the lcd to adjust color, tint, pix, contrast and backlight the 5 incher doesnt have tint, or backlight adjustments maybe i'll just have to do a review on it once my case is ready for it =) Last edited by abyssling; 29-September-02 at 12:32 PM.. | ||

| the first thing i would do(have done..hehe) find a couple of places nearby that install car audio/video. stop by a couple of times here and there and find an installer you can relate to. this was a bit easier for me as i'm in the automotive field allready and have gotten to know a few of these guys over time. they sell these screens as small as 3x4...and up to 14" square now once you know someone ask them about the screen youre lookin for(size, etc.) youll be surprised how many of these things get returned for stupid stuff ,for example:"after i had it installed it distracted me too much" or " my girlfriend caught me watchin porn on it and made me get rid of it" sounds funny ,but it does happen. anyway they can no longer sell it as new so usually the installer or salesmen get first crack at the item then they get sold as used. point is,alot of these guys are willing to make some kind of trade or cut some kind of deal with ya. "Works on a standard composite video signal from any VCR, video camera, or navigation system." as long as its a standard video signal it will display it hope that helps some. | the res isnt so great but they are nice. ha think of the cadalac escalade with the TV headrests and the direct tv self tracking dome dish on top with the 4 15inch JL audio W7s in the trunk with huge wattage amps and those amps with the vacume tube preamps driveing ARC audio rainbow components with 1 guage wireing and 2 alternators under the hood. sorry i just had to get that out. dont forget the 22inch rims. do any of you notice when you run 2 monitors your frame rates go down? | ||
