Default What can i use to make ripples

Well, i have an idea for my upcoming project but i need to know something

On this case i plan on getting a large amount of goop on it to make large ripples raising about an inch of goop off of the case itself and will make kind of waves on the case. what can i use to make this wonder, it has to be able to dry completely be sandable and be fairly light...

any of you pimps have any ideas? if you do post back pls!!!

well, first off sounds to me like you are making a matrix themed case (the part were neo starts to fly)

if i were to do it, i would use wire nettin (stuff used to make landscapes on model railroad tracks) and then bondo, the stuff used to fix body problems on cars.

wow two model train answers in one day

theres this stuff that is used to make realistic looking lakes it drys real slow and with a few layers you could build it up into a good set of waves or ripples

are you making a potato chip mod?

You would be AMAZED at how much model railroading stuff crosses over into modding.

Well uhh not really... it would be sweet tho but nahh

Any idea what that Model Railroad goop is called and a price range? also will i abe able to sand and carve this stuff?

More importantly will i be able to paint over it?

Do i need a special kind of paint? does it crumble easily?

Because i need it to be able to handle standard wear and tear. if all these are too many questions just tell me... anyhow thats about it for now.

Thanks for all the replies to date

You could use something like modders mesh to form a armature for the ripples. Maybe pop-rivets to hold it in place. Then fiberglass over the top of it. Epoxy resin is light, strong and paints well. Or you could mold a fiberglass piece then attach it.

bondo... my uncle is a body worker on cars and he told me cheap car repair companies use lots of it and after a while it rips... maybe for the big rippers u shud make a base and then put a thin layer of nice quality bondo. that whay it wont crack. of course u wont be driving ur pc around, but just incase what my uncle said applys here, also ull save some bondo. just if u wanna make 2 or three cases ull be more cost efficient
