| Apex Techie Wannabe | Hi all!!! This is my second modding project.... To be launched before summer (or early summer). I've allready bought my Asus Vento 3600 case and placed my TV-computer inside to make some testruns: ![]() Now.... I have plans to make my new shiny computer as quiet as possible. My first project "-KirKas-" http://forums.bit-tech.net/showthread.php?t=84911 (in bit-tech.net) wasn't quite that. So... I'm going to switch in to exciting world of watercooling. Here are my two mockup-pictures of options I'm thinking at the moment: ![]() In this option I would place a Aquatube reservoir in place of original ventilation hole of the case's side. ![]() In this option I would place TWO Cape Coolplex -reservoirtubes under plexi window that would replace the original top of the case. Under plexi there would be some red leds to light everything up nicely ![]() Well, what do you guys think? Is there any pros / cons popping in your minds concerning these plans? ------------ marco | |

Yes, there is actually three intakes built in on the case. Those two race car intake like large intakes with lights (about 4cm width & 10cm height each) and one on the bottom not really visible in the picture (about 15cm width & 2cm height). ![]() Do you think that is enough? I would not like to place any fans in front (there is one stock one behind left -front intake), because quietness is the thing I really "need" in this project. ------------ marco

| Maybe you could put the rad up top and exaust the air through some top blowholes. but I think that would defeat the purpose of running silent. Another option would be to mount the rad on the bottom and draw cool air in from underneath. otherwise your going to be stuck with a small radiator mounted on the rear case exaust, not the best choice. I,m not trying to give you a hard time, but that would be one of the last cases i'd try to water cool. (MY own opinion). post some pics of the inside so we can see what kinda space you have to work with. I'm positive with a little thought you could stuff a decent cooling system in there | ||

Thanks for your comments! My thoughts at the moment is I would like to position the radiator to the rear case exhaust. But I'll have to think about your ideas! I know Vento isn't excactly modders case (I read numerous reviews of it beforehand and noticed that no one recommended it for modding), but I really really REALLY love the looks of it (reminds me of those Alienware cases), so I just need to live with it's restrictions and besides I LOVE a little challenge in my life ![]() ps. I will post some indoor shots later....

| Apex Techie Wannabe | ![]() General indoor shot. ![]() Stock fan that's going to be replaced with some silent fan. Fan is placed behind one of the front intakes. ![]() The size of the front intake is visible here... ![]() Here you can see how much space there's wasted on top of the case. That's where I was planning to place those reservoirs. Allso theres wasted space in front of the case around the USB sockets. That's where I could place some electronics for new power switch and front plate electronics... ![]() "Roof" from inside...... lots of room there... | |

| Wow look at all the room in the external case housing(roof),It looks like you'll have no lack of space. You could move your harddrive up above the optical drive(add on drive rail kit). Mod/remove the lower section of the drive cages. Then mount a Large rad with 120mm fans behind it drawing in cool air.use a speed controller to keep down the noise. Or you could put a radiator up top in the case with some 120mm fans in the roof. | ||

| You could paint the metal top of the case black, add lighting in that area, cut out a hole in the plastic top to be filled in with lexan or acrylic, and mount two cylindrical reservoirs in that opened space. You'd need to drill a couple of holes into the metal to run the lines to connect those two reservoirs to the rest of the cooling loop. | ||

![]() If you don't already know about this little thing called Folding@Home here is some info about it. OUR GOAL Understanding how proteins self-assemble ("protein folding") is a holy grail of modern molecular biophysics. What makes it such a great challenge is its complexity, which renders simulations of folding extremely computationally demanding, and difficult to understand. The Stanford group has developed a new way to simulate protein folding. However, this method is extremely computationally demanding and they need our help. For more info about it stop by F@H's home page here. With that in mind you should read up on our team Team PCApex linkage. It is a great way to help humanity and PCApec alike. If you are the competitive type you might want to join up in one of PCApex's sub teams for more info on them check these links. Team Ups Team Ator btw....is there any updates on this sweeet project
