| This is going to be my first mod, and I figured out where to get most of the stuff from. Soldering iron: dragonmodz leds + resistors: lsdiodes (tell me if you know any better places) but I still need a multimeter and heatshrink sleeving I don't really know what to look for in a multimeter http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0000AXD47 is this one any good? and I have no idea where to get the heatshrink from... thx for any pointers ![]() | ||

| You can get the LEDs from dragon modz, they are pretty cheap there too (Plus if you order so many LEDs you get some free ) Basically, choose a multimeter for your needs. I got mine at sears and its by craftsmen (on account I heard craftmens has a lifetime warentee, and if it breaks I can bring it to sears and they will give me another one for free-atleast thats what I was told by my dad) Most meters have Cap or Temperature measurement as an optional Function. The temp might come in handy if you overclock or are into wicked cooling of some sort (or you just want to measure temp of something) All Multimeters have the basic functions, which include, Volts DC, Volts AC, Amps DC, Amps AC, Diode Check, and Continuity check. SXome multimeters may have something whats called a transistor checker. This is also Optional, and Im assuming you dont do any work with transistors, so this is not needed. Fluke, is the best kind of meter, although they are expensive, they last a long time and are reliable. Most meters are, just dont get a cheap no-name brand one. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...239092-5410219 That one looks pretty good, and I got mine for the same price. Dont get yours at radioshack (I dont trust their products for the electronics DIY field of work) As the for the heatshrink you cna get it at radioshack, They have an assorment back that is black (they also have colored for a bit more money) The resistors, If you need them now get at radioshack. If you dont mind waiting, I can give them to you for free (I'll put em in an envelop, 10 Resistor limit) I have 270Ohms resistors, and 180Ohm resistors. I myself use 270ohms all the time for any application. Also, I got my soldering iron from radio shack (I know I said I dont trust their products, but there irons are pretty good) I use a 15W one, and I love it. Its good for small jobs, such as LEDs, ICs etc. It also has a 3 pronged cord (ground, neutral, hot) for static sensitive stuff. The handle also remains cool throughout use (Ive had others where the handle gets hot and you can concentrate) ps I also have (if your doing stuff with transistors) a crap load of transistors and other stuff if you need anything. I have a huge Junk box of crap ive salvaged. Last edited by Nerdz; 03-January-06 at 04:56 PM.. | ||
