Default Extremely LOUD!!

My PSU is the loudest thing in my damn case!

It has a 120MM fan install on the top of it and nothing creates more noise than it!

Here are pics of my rig!

The PSU is the Silverstone Strider

Another problem is my stupid EVGA 7800GT's fan that makes the 2nd most noise in my case!

If i could some how fix these 2 problems my case would be completely quiet.

You are looking into getting watercooling right? http://forums.pcapex.com/showthread.php?t=60811

That will help, also there are products out there (kinda like rubbers.......rrrrr well they are made of rubber) that prevent vibration between the case and the fans, they might help a bit.

You could easily replace the fan of the PSU, but watch what you're doing... charged
capacitators can hurt bad.... choose a fan which is quieter from Papst or Panaflo... just make sure
it starts running at the same voltage as your current PSU fan and puts out an equal amount of cfm...
Fit it "decoupled"...

If you decide to go watercooling, just buy a block for your VGA card... if not buy an Artic Cooling
Silencer for your card...

I was messing around with an old PSU once and got hit then the whole damn PSU went up in a big puff of fire and smoke, not to mention that my arm hurt for the rest of the day

For christmas, I got an nv2-l06 cooler for my eVGA 6800nu, I know they're not the same cards, bu they both use blowers. After installing the cooler, my rig became so quiet and cool, about 10 degrees Celsius cooler. I am still getting used to it. I keep thing somethings wrong (fan failure).

Wont that void the warranty?

But isnt it also possible that I can remove the fan and if it breaks add the old fan back to trick them?

Ohh wait thats another one of my stupid idea's

If you replace the fan in the PSU it will void the warranty (there usually is a seal on it), same thing goes
for the GPU. With the GPU it can be a real pain to re-mount the original cooler and make it look it never
came off... (platic mounting bits, unknown thermal compound).

According to the PSU description the PSU has a smart system installed for the fan which would speed up the fan accordingly to the heat. Well throughout my entire use of the PSU it has been on one speed the entire time. And the PSU's fan emitts cold air. I am also thinking it could be vibrations from the PSU causing the dreded noise. What I am going to try is remove the PSU from the brackets and see if the vibrations from the PSU are causing the noise and if they are I will just add rubber screws to silence the PSU a bit. For the GPU I am not sure if I should remove the original cooler or keep it maybe you could share your experience?

"Decoupling" your PSU is always a good thing! They sell special silicone "frames" for it, they are
fairly cheap. The Zalman PSU in my wife's PC also has such a "noise killer" circuit, still, the darn thing was just too loud... I replaced the fan in the PSU by a YS Tech Green Label fan and know it's dead silent...

Just took me like 15mins or so.. I posted the 'mod here on PimpRig.

As far as replacing the heatsink/fan goes... I found the Artic Cooling series not too difficult to install...
Just don't overtight the mounting screws.... I think the Zalman VF series might even be easier to install.

Well for the GPU fan I am looking for quiet performance. Which series is adequete for this job?

For the PSU lucky for me they have a grill on top that I can unscrew and remove the fan WITHOUT voiding the warranty! Which fan do you suggest for a quiet operation?

quitest 120mm fans are the nexus ones. Just make sure you don't draw too much power from the psu if you install one becacue the cooling will be sevearly reduced.
http://www.kustompcs.co.uk/acatalog/info_2578.html

decoupling the fan will reduce noise further:
http://www.kustompcs.co.uk/acatalog/info_2409.html

good luck.

I suggest one of the following;

Papst 4412 F/2GL
Noiseblocker SX2 Pro System Fan
Y.S. Tech FD1212251B_2F Green Label

I guess the Y.S. Tech is the cheapest one & the easiest one to get.
Just make sure you get this green label fan and no other Y.S. Tech one... these are one of a kind!

Maybe it is best for you to get the Zalman VF Cooler & a resistor cable (down to 5v or 7v).
Easy to mount and below 7v I don't think you can hear the Zalman anymore...

Alright, I just ordered all the parts that I will need.

Now my last custom build problem is the temperature of the chipset. Right now it is acceptable at 44 degree celsius and the CPU is also at 44 degrees Celsius on IDLE.

Now I have discovered that If I add a fan on my grill or facing both the CPU heatsink and the motherboard heat sink my temperatures can go into the 30's. Now what do you suggest I do about this?

This computer needs to run cool because I will keep it running 24/7!

I will also need to cool the hardrives... The Shark case has this as it's olny flaw! The front intake fan does not work well at all and it barely blows any air on my hardrives.

Once these problems are addressed I can enjoy my first custom build.

Well... you can buy an active chipset cooler or replace the current one(s) with larger passive heatsinks.

40c isn't hot for a chipset or cpu, I would only bother replacing the cooler if you have the space and are going to run more than the standard voltage through the chipset.

Most good psu have fan speed controllers or perhaps the grill causing bad vortex ,source of sound.I am sure if fan is stock and operating proper it was not intended to blast off.You can even put filter on it if all else fails(act as muffler).Keep us posted,Jo ps-if all else fails turn stereo UP...lol

Well... I guess you do a Google on that very same PSU and you'll notice most real reviews
(on reliable sites) see it as a good but not so silent PSU... By real I mean a review backed
up by scientific data... (db meters & such..)..
