Default No more power wires!!!

NO MORE POWER WIRES.

Today I got the my got my acid wash kit!!!

this is what IÂ’m going to do... it comes with a sheet that fits perfectly on the back of the top compartment of my case (the side the mobo mounts to. what IÂ’m going to do is buy some female Molex connecters (6) and some male Molex connectors (6) and one female/male mobo Molex connecter.

1.) IÂ’m going to measure 5 inches or wire, from the origin of where it comes out of the power supply and cut the wires there.
2.) from the pile of cut wires IÂ’m going to take off all the male Molex connectors and set them aside as well as all the extra wire.
3.) IÂ’m going to attach the male mobo connector to the short wires coming out of the psu
4.) out of the male connecters that i have got and salvaged make small 5 inch patch power cables.

Now it gets interesting....

Taking note of how i put the cables in the male Molex connector I”m going to design a template for the pcb board basically what its going to do is the new male mobo connecter is going to attach to it ... and then its going to lead to 6 power jacks that are much closer to the actual drives (actually its going to be right behind them on the back plate..... now all that needs to be connected is the short patch cables to each of the drives... this should look very clean when its done and I can't wait to do it... (This weekend for sure!)

ill posts pics once i get started.

Hey Who,

Where ya been? Been a while since you've posted.

Your idea sound really cool. Nice and short runs of wire. I assume that you will have to use stand-off for the PCB so as is does not short out on the back plate.

I was thinking that you may want to add more molex conectors to the PCB to facilitate additional fans and stuff. Hell, you could even make part of that PCB a hiden rheobus. Just run the wires to the switches or pots neatly around to the front of the case.

I'd definately love to see some pics.

That sounds awesome. My question is do you not have anything near the bottom of your case that needs to run off of molex like a fan. or are you going to run it in series with another device?

Been really busy with school... so ive not been as active as i would like to be with my modding...

anyways i really like the idea of adding a reo-bus to the pcb, make the most of the space on the board! but thats got me to thinking aswell... if i could do this i could add say a inverter section for Cold Cathode or something. that way if i ever do add something along the lines of that i wouldn't have to have an inverter box in my case!

oohh the idea's are flowing... anyway... just to add the pcb will be mounted with some sort of stand off system as to no short against the case..

also on all of the custom cables i would like to use that fabric wirecover. i need to find a place in my city to get that stuff. ive looked but so far no such luck

i can't wait untill the summer... ill have a job to fund all these fun idea's and more time to do them!

Why don't case manufacturers start adding sections with rooms specifically for inverters? Now that would be the day...

And good idea, drwho

I wonder why case designers havent thought of doing that before. Thats one sweet idea, if I had a steady hand, I'd do something like that too..mhmmm, more airflow..

Who, There is a place here that has fabric wire loom. In fact I used it on my machine. Unfortunatley, it only comes in 2 colours, back and natural (white) The diameters is also in limited selection (real thick about 3/4" and real thin about 1/4"). If you want, I'll PM some pictures to you. The only thing is it frays really easy and canbe a bit of a pain to work with.

I think that the CC inverter is another great idea. I suppose that the number of circuts that you could put on one boad is only limited by the size of the board.

Good luck!

Sounds like a good enough idea I guess, and different.
You could clean up the wiring just as easy by running the PS wires thru the backplate as you said, and extending them to reach each device when you bring them back thru. Not cracking on your idea Who, just saying you could have an even cleaner look with less work.
