Sometimes you really need a new computer because you smoke the processor on your old one trying to overclock it..

Guess what I did...

Anyhow, since I find myself in this ugly place I've just spent way more money than I have on the following:

and I have a Thermaltake Big Typhoon CPU cooler that I'm hoping will fit this processor..if not, I guess I'll use the retail cooler. I also have a Seagate 300GB IDE drive that I'll move to this system (I'll replace with SATA later this year).

The parts should make a good system. I'm just don't have a good plan yet on modding it beyond the out-of-the-box stuff above. Didn't have time to plan this one out. I'm entertaining all suggestions at this point. What would you, Pimprig community, do with this system?

You've pretty much pieced together the same core components I've been planning. Case, MB, Processor (I might still stick with an opteron if I'm assured I can get what I want) PSU, etc.

I'm not getting the same accessories, but it was nice to see someone else thinking along the same lines.

I'm also having a hard time planning how I want to mod this case. It's a big window!!

What to do with such a beast? Hmm... I know, pack it up and ship it to me. Make sure it arrives at 12:01 Christmas morning. (we could do with a Santa Claus smilie around the Holidays...)

You say you spent way more than you have... How much so? Are you talking about "eating PB&Js for the rest of the year/decade" more, or "I just put some unused duplicate organs up for sale on e-Bay" more???

The only thing that wasn't my first choice there are the processor and mobo. I orignally wanted to wait until the price on the Asus A8N32-SLI came down and it was actually in stock somewhere, or even more ideally wait until DFI put out a board with the full 16X on both PCIx SLI slots. I would like more processor, but I figure with this mobo I can wait for prices to come down a bit and upgrade to something in the dual core range later....or just overclock the heck out of what I get

That window is a pain in some ways. That's a whole side of the case I really don't want to mess with. The "flaps" in the front are cool...hmmm...that just gave me an idea....

I've made chain mail before...maybe I'll run a mail panel between the flaps...well, it's the germ of an idea anyway.

Well, it means taking on more debt that I was trying to get rid of (and I'm living too close to spending more each month than I make right now...). I'm hoping my tax return this year will absorb a lot of it, and that when I start up the business I'm planning that I will be able to turn some of the profit from that (if there is any profit) back to paying this off. hmmm....the PB&J option is looking mighty attractive.

. . . and some Ramen for variety, right? I hear ya!!

He used an Armor as well, just different innards... Maybe that can give you a jump-start?
