Default key starter power button

i have been building a brief case computer and so far almost done now but it has mainly been over at ntfs where we designed it but we came up with the idea to have a key starter on it just for something cool. i dont know how it all works so can i get some info if anyone knows any on how to do this, here is a link to the thread over there http://www.ntfs.org/forum/showthread...329#post290329

or if anyone has any intresitng ideas for it then post them and see what happens.

I'm not exactly sure if this is what you wanted, but this is similar to a starter switch. It's a momentary switch with little screw terminals on the end. You basically just make a hole for it, attach the wiring, tighten it, and it's ready to go. I have no idea where it's from, found it lying around in my dad's pile of stuff.

[Note: That was just a shameless plug for my mod ]

yea thoes are exactly what i am looking for but i dont want to spend the money on something fancy like that one in the guide, now just a question becuase i want to make my own but yea, to turn on the pc from the switch, is it just a short connectivity between the to to start it or does it need to stay connected for the entire time???? like how does the normal switch work electricaly???

im pretty sure you just need one that forms a connection when you press it, since otherwise, itd be impossible to turn the comp off with the switch

An automotive ignition switch has ON/OFF and momentary for the starter which could work for a reset. I used to hotwire my van when I lost the keys so I know there are three leads, power, on and starter. I dont know about wiring the reset and power switch leads together. anybody got advice? I'd like to try this mod myself, I have a bit of an automotive motif going on my rig.

You could use a regular car ignition switch for on/off. If you just connect the wires to the ground and then to the STARTER position..as long as you didn't hold it forward to long it would work just fine. If you wanted you could wire it so that if you moved it back to the ACCESSORY position it would restart (you would have to turn it back then back the the off position relativly quickly though). It should be pretty easy and cheap if you can find an ignition switch (any old one should work just fine).

Actually, power button as well as reset button has to be momentary. Basically what I used was this http://www.jameco.com/cgi-bin/ncomme...s=503;523;723;

Yea, I realize that as well, but as long as you just switch it back to the acc. then back to the off position quickly it should work alright.
