| Apex Techie Lite | After being extremely disappointed with my ThermalTake Volcano 9+ Coolmod and breaking my front door. I think I need to do something and pimp up my rig. After looking at several mod sites and fourms I've decided that I a Green/Red/UV/Blue combo or if thats even a combo at all. Antec Lanboy 1)Add some uv lights! After looking at uv reactive cables, plastic adapters and the such. I just have to have one. This particular mod made me really want to use some UV Lights. UV Trace and UV Drawing I am using a Soltek FRN-75 L Mobo, and a Dark Blue- Green Radeon 8500, what kind of color traces do you think I should put? Also for the front air intake a green uv reactive plastic piece that holds the fan in place. I have done some observing and on www.xoxide.com and if you buy a CCFL Fan you can use the inverter to hook up another CCFL 12" Bulb which would be cheaper than getting another inverter or would it. I was thinking of getting a green 80mm CCFL uv and use that over the front intake and hook up a uv bulb to the inverter. Or would this be too much uv light? Could I just get a plain uv reactive bulb and inverter? As for my wire loom I am not sure what colors I would use. Suggestions? Should I use UV Reactive IDE cables? What colors? Or paint mine black? I also had the idea of taking the cover off my power supply and replacing it with a blue uv reactive cover. On another side note, I could replace the leds with uv leds or just replace some of them. I could also replace the fans inside. They are clear bladed Sunon's. The leds and fans are sodered onto the PCB. I have never sodered in my life not even on a powersupply. I've heard powersupplys can store enough power to kill you. I wouldn't want to ruin my system or powersupply or zap my self. 2)Construct a blowhole and some small holes? For my blowhole it'll be pretty simple. I am going to make a bunch of small holes in a circle and hook up a 120mm, 92mm or 80mm fan. Now the hard part I have is choosing what fan I will use! Clear? One with leds? UV Reactive? Note, I want this fan to be quiet! As for the back of my air out-take I was thinking of making the air outtake large I could possibly make it a 120mm or 92mm hole instead of the current 80mm. I would most likely use a chrome metal fan or something else? On the right of the door panel I was thinking of making some small holes. Maybe in some sort of spiral. I also had the idea of out lining my window with Glow Wire, would it be that bright?Suggestions? 3)Fan controlling and hard drive quieting! Now, I really want to have a cool baybus. I want to use plain metal switches, I could care less about knobs! Anyone have any suggestions how to go about this? I would like my CCFL to be next to this fan control array. Anyone ever used coolermasters new hard drive cooler? The real problem isnt my hard drive its the high pitched whine! I absolutly hate it. I am using a WD 40GIG HD, I could move it up to my 5.25 drive bay. Anyone have any ideas how to scilence this loud whine? My case does have a door over the drive bays. Please give me some input! | |

| Goto www.3dgameman.com, he reviewed a HDD muffler a few months back. It basically is a cage that surrounds the HDD and it goes in the 5 1/4bay. It's got lots of foam inside n ****. | ||

| Well Tab, glad you followed my advice and decided to post it up here.. I believe most of us know the case he's talking about from the review we have ( http://www.pcapex.com/modules.php?s=...icle&artid=118 ) My input that I didn't put on the fargogaming forum is this: Mount your fans, drives, and whatever else vibrates with rubber grommets... or some rubbery thing. Absorbs the vibrations and keeps it from being amplified by your case and being annoying. Oh yeah, and if you've walked into PCHertz recently you'd know that glow wire isn't all that bright... they have those rounded IDE cables with the glow wire spiralled around the cable and under the clear rubber covering... it isn't bright, but it adds some color to your wiring... I'm probably gonna pick up a pair here shortly. | ||

| Apex Techie Lite | I saw some of those EL IDE Cables in Dave' Case. I wasn't really impressed or impressed with the prices at PC Hertz. The nosie I really cant stand is my Thermaltake Fan and my high pitched whine of my hard drive. Other than that I have no problems. | |

| Turn down that fan then, its the smart fan 2 isnt it? I mean, yeah... you're losing some cooling power... but you're saving your sanity, right? I'd drop it to where when you're at 100 percent load it's hitting maybe 45C... that's what I've got mine at with the retail heatsink and I have no overheating problems.... well, besides my radeon.. but that's beside the point. | ||

| Apex Techie Lite | I emailed Antec and haven't heard back. Its only been a day. I get really bad temps when I put it very low. Not to mention then I start hearing that annoying whine from my hard drive. I've been looking at that new Zalman Cooler, the all copper one looks pretty damned good considering the temps he got on a 3.06 P4 and I am only running a 1600+ @ 1.75 11.5x166. Anyone have any suggestions how to quiet my hard drive? | |

| When you put it very low of course your temps are going to suck. I meant by putting it in the middle of the range so it's moving... well, it's max is what.. 75 cfm? mid range for it oughta be 30 or so, so go a little higher than mid range. 40 cfm oughta be fine for any heatsink. | ||

| Apex Techie Lite | First the hard disk. I have a WD disk too with the same problem. If you want you could do the sandwich thing (nothing difficult). Here is how. It dumpens the whine and drops the temp a little. You can use the silicone if you haven't the foam thing. It makes the same job ![]() About the el-wire around the window. Done it too, and if you use the green wire (the brightest of all) the you can give life to some engraving you' 'll do to the window. The effect depends on the depth of the engraving too. So you can have other parts of the design more lighted and other less (by make it more superficial). The uv drawing. Done that (too ). The best colors you can use are orange and green. No, i'm coppying what japala (metku mods) probably have said too, but i'm speaking out of my experience. If you use too much orange and little green then the green won't even be visible. Maybe the other way around (GREEN & orange). For blue don't even think about it. Just give the money to a homeless guy...The spiral design. I haven't done it (don't worry, i won't), but i like it a lot like an idea, but in a different way. In the front and with some small fans behind these holes (and run them of course with the minimum volts cause they 'll drive you crazy otherwise). You must be a patient man, though,to do it (especially in mnpctech's way ) . I don't know if you even have the required space, ... anyway, just my (how do you say it?) 2cents to the topic (or something like that :p )Ah, and deside for most of the mods yourself cause we aint gonna live with it, you are. Unless you are going to give it to one of us, ... are u :pHave fun! | |

| Apex Techie Lite | Looks like my modding is delayed. Well it was never started in the first place. Planetside is a bizatch, does it have a memory leak? It uses 1GB! Anyway my system is stil slow as... 1x256MB PC2700 Samsung Radeon 8500 64MB Noisey fan and hard drive drive me insane! | |
