| My first idea is to do the standard blue instead of red led but was wondering if instead of piggybacking the second led if i could use wires and attach to the front of the mouse so more of the translucent material lights up and gives a much better effect...but would this mess up the optical sensor? | ||

| I tried the blue with my wireless optical, it wouldn't give enough power to the LEDs then I thought about putting the LEDs on a seperate circuit that was independantly powered that kicked in when it boosts the power to the LED, but I didn't really have the time or the space to experiment with that Long story short: Blue was pretty, but it didn't work | ||

| Have you successfully modded a logitech wireless optical mouse? If so, It would really help me out if you posted your method. But I tried several different configurations and the layout of the mouse just wasn't conducive to modding. There was no way to mount a second LED such that the light would be focused under the sensor. and the brightest single blue LED was around 5000 mcds and I'd have to get it special order and even then, I think that the stock red LED is about 10,000 mcds. I'm not apprehensive, I'm out of ideas | ||

| I have modded optical mice, as well as studied the underlying theory behind them. Basically what's involved is that a tiny camera takes many pictures/second. Based on the changes in these pictures, the mouse is able to determine whether or not it has been moved, and thus determine motion quantities. In order to function properly, a normal digital camera needs light. Light reflects off the surface it is pointed at and back at the digital camera, where it enters the lens and strikes the CCD (or whatever technology the camera is based off of). There the light is converted to a digital signal, then a digital image, etc. etc. etc. The point is that as long as the camera has light you should be okay. I changed the LEDs in my mouse from red to yellow to green to blue to purple without incident or loss of functionality. Adding more light to the existing light only increases the contrast and brightness of the image, which is good so long as you don't overpower the CCD and wash out the image. Granted, you won't be able to see exactly what the CCD sees, but you can indirectly observe it by means of a loss of mouse resolution and/or response time. My recommendation is that what you have suggested should be perfectly fine, with the condition that it may or may not have an effect on the mouse, depending on the mouse and CCD manufacturer. If you experience problems, one means of dealing with them is to reduce the total lumens output of the auxilary LED with a limiting resistor; this helps to ensure the camera is only picking up useful information, i.e. your desk and not the glare from an extra super bright LED you implanted within the mouse. Good luck in your adventures and let us know how it turns out. | ||

| damn wixx nice answer ![]() as for my mouse or any other mouse, the led that u put inside it has to be special, it has to be able to run off 3.5 volts and have a mcd's between 3700 and 6000 once u found that kind of led (color dont matter) just replace it carefully, and push the led pretty hard in the led holder (the closer the led is the more light there be) then you have to kinda push the optical sensor ..so it would get back to its original position (if u dont do this, you mouse would be jerky) enjoy ur mod | ||

| i tried the blue led mod on this old ms optical mouse and it did not worked so i just kept the blue led, made it face the opposite side, drilled some holes, added some sanded plastic (taken from a jewel box and shaped using a lighter) to dissipate the light and got a nice blue and red theme, i´d like to try again, maybe the intensity of the ble led was not enuough... | ||
