Default Eject stealthed drive

I have stealthed my optical drives, but I'd like a shortcut to eject my CD trays. How would I do that in Windows 98?

I'm going by memery on this one so bear with me, go to my computer, right clk the cd, go to properties and there should be a "eject cd". Right clk that , properties, copy.
Go to desktop, right clk, shortcut, paste address in and that should do it.
It's been a while since Ive done Win 98 so be flexible

I regret stealthing my drive now, even though it looks cool, when you actually "use" your pc it gets to be a pain. Because you can only do that in windows.

I've seen a couple of versions of stealthing where you can still use the eject button. One used double sided foam tape. The other a thick layer of silicone. Both used something as a shim between the button and the drive bay cover. The mounting would move enough you could push on the corner of the drive bay and it would activate the button.

That thick double-face tape should do the trick. It offers enough flex so the "shim" over the eject botton like AntiM was refering to can activate

I actually already use a tab, so I can eject the stealthed drive WITHOUT having to use Windows, but I wanted to be able to do both.

But no, that first response does not work in Windows 98. So...if anyone knows how to create a shortcut to eject a CD drive, let me know.

if you look around, there's a program called "hi-cd eject" that works with 98 if i remember correctly.

No, HiCDeject doesn't really do what I want it to do. I need a SHORTCUT that is programmed to eject the CD tray.

Has anyone actually done anything like this? Does everyone who stealths their optical drives still just use the front eject button?

hey i am running 98 and i did what Duck said just go to my puter ,right click(on cd of choice) ,go down to create a shortcut,it will say cannot create a shortcut place shortcut onto desktop ,click yes and you have all the properties there ,granted its not just a eject shortcut but its the best ya can do.now be real trick and right click that shortcut and drag it down to your start menu to get it off the desktop and hide it there.

My HP has a button on the keyboard that does that.

Lucky you. That's actually exactly what I want this shortcut for. I have a few configurable buttons on my keyboard, and I want to use one of them to eject my stealthed drive.

Creating a shortcut to the drive does not help, because it doesn't execute the eject command.

Is there any way to modify the "target" in the properties of the shortcut to eject the drive??

Not that it makes any difference, but it's a Microsoft Intellitype Pro, I think.

Yeah, thanks, but you're not listening. I already have the drive stealthed just fine, and the physical eject button does work.

But I still need a shortcut to eject the drive...

If anyone can come up with something better ,let me know.

Thanks, Lokie. That's the closest so far to solving my problem. Unfortunatly, you have to have that program running to use the shortcut, so it's really not exatcly what I had in mind. But somehow that program is using a command to eject the CD, and I need to know how to specify that command into a shortcut to link to a configurable button on my keyboard.
