| Apex Techie Wannabe | Hey! It is a massive pain getting my panels off not to mention on, take a look at this pic. I was wondering does anyone have any suggestions on what i could do to alter it to open easier/better? http://usavioih.com/is.php?i=431&img=Photo-0228.jpg Thanks | |

| Apex Techie Wannabe | Yeah, inside will be best. Would door hinges work as i think i have some in the shed. I was wondering, when you said add a case handle any suggestions on them, of course a black, chrome or silver one is a must. I'd actually like a clamshell type or something to go over the current 'pre set' handle (if you can get away with calling it an handle) PS. Im in UK | |

| I'm thinking a piano hinge would be best. I'd spot weld (you'll find that a high stregnth epoxy will probably work just as well) it on to the panel and screws on the back of the case, notching out a ~1/8" groove on the back edge of the case to keep the panel flush. Sounds like a good mod in the works. ![]() Edit: I just found some acrylic piano hinges... http://www.sdplastics.com/acrylicpianohinges.html | ||

| Apex Techie Wannabe | Come to think about it, do you think the magnet strip plus 3 thumbscrews in each side would be enough? Hinges arn't a must, i just thought they would be needed to start with. The strips i ordered are actually American too, they are: http://i7.ebayimg.com/04/i/04/5b/9f/ee_1_b.JPG Looks ok from what i can see, i ordered two. | |

| The piano hinge would work best. A long one along the entire rear edge or at least a pair top and bottom to support the weight of the door. The handle is up to you, whatever goes with the theme of the case. Go to your local "bits" store and look at various dresser handles. | ||

| I think I might "borrow this thread for my next case. Using the stock case screws to hold on the hinge, with a small, discreet clasp to "lock the panel closed so it doesn't just swing open at in-opportune times. With the disappearance of floppy drives, we can start using magnets with computers, (HDD have enough sheilding and aren't bothered by weak stationary magnets. Kinda like these child safe cabinet locks. ![]() I wonder if they come in chrome... | ||

When I get home from work today I'll post what I did with my LianLi side panel. I'll try to explain for now though: I used 3-hole hinges and rivited curved sliding drawer hinges onto the 3H hinges. I used the curved drawer hinges because the Lian Li side panels drop into the bottom then slide into the front. My pics later on will explain it better. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||
