Default Strip of leds

Okay. I got a strip of leds from this gay car thing my friend bought at canadian tire for his car. Theres 12 bright blue leds and there is a wire that has been sliced.

One wire is normal. The other has a white line. So the normal wire would be red and the lined one is black right?

Okay! So my question is. Itf I have an attachment that converts a 80mm fan from motherboard connection to molex could I cut the little connector off and splice the wires on the corresponding lead and have the lights in my computer on without damaging anything?

Thanks!

The mobo pin thingy your talking about is a 3pin to 4 pin (aka molex)adapter. So plug the LEDs in the Black and red side of the 3 pin connector (if thats what you mean, assuming the molex is female and plugs INTO the powersupply and you want to use the 3 pin connector for the LEDs)

So yes you can do it safely.

BUT make sure you have resistance for them. The strip of LEDS MAY have resistors already, but dont chance it.

Are you sure they are LEDs? White wire sounds like a CCL to me. Hmm If you plug the LEDs in backwords it wont hurt them (or shouldnt anyway), just make sure you have a resistor in series with the whole string (unless you know it already has resistors inside).

This I am certain that the strip is leds. There is one resistor but it is on the chip for of the leds not on the strip it self. The strip of leds has wires going to the chip.

If there is no resistos what will happen?

The LEDs will go *POOF* and you will smell burning silicon (although it does smell very nice..its not good)

So if I understand your english correctly, The LED strip can off the chip correct? Which had tthe Resistors correct? Or is the LED strip still connected to the strip?

The led sillicon strip has 12 leds on it and it is connected by wires to another peice of sillicon with a chip and the power wires on it. It alos has one cylindrical resistor!

since this led strip is meant for automotive use, that means it runs off of 12volts. the piece that is connected to the strip by the wires is the inverter. so just connect the wires coming off the inverter to the +12 and -12 lines on the molex. if u cross the wires nothing will happen. if the leds cant handle the voltage only they will fry.

12vdc is 12vdc Chairman explained it pretty well. Nerdz most car batterys....here in the states anyways are 12vdc, and most anything in your car runs off of 12vdc. Which means like chairman said all youve got to do is make sure the positive wire on the LED strip is going to the yellow wire on your molex and the negative to one of your black wires. Simple as that. No resistors are needed in this case, the LED strip i gaurantee 100% if your in the states is made for 12vdc power, thats why it already has a resistor hooked up to it from the manufacturer.

Well I tire it before the flood of replies and I fryed them, and I heard the poof. They were working though. For a bit. And when I retarted they died. Are the leds themselves dead or is it the transistor?

They are most likely dead.

That's strange, I've run a few automotive 12V lights just by cutting the end off and soldering a Molex to it.
