| I've been wondering for a while now if it were possible to mod my tsunami dream thermaltake case to add mnptech's infamous turbine mod. Don't think the door would be too much of a problem but just cutting through that gorgeous finish; not to mention the plastic. Just looking for some feedback. What do you guys think? P.S. - For those who responded to my previous thread about overclocking my cpu I appreciate it. Sorry I didn't respond back since I've been so busy but I realized that my bios just needed a bit of updating. That seems to have fixed the problem. Dunno why, go figure. Now running my Athlon 64 3000+ at a nice 2.2Ghz . Thanks again. | ||

| Thought about it for a while and I came to the same conclusion. Only problem is if I were to make a top intake, I would have to remove the top USB/Firewire/Audio Jacks and it would look sloppy. As far as a side intake, I'm not entirely sure. I thought about turning the 92mm into a 120mm. Might not look as good though. But hey I'm still open to suggestions. Hit me back. | ||

Make the top exhaust, because heat rises...........you could pull cool air in from the bottom of the case....

| Can't put in a top exhaust because I'd have to cut out the entire top usb/firewire/audio hub; as seen here. The only possible way for this to work would be to cut a 120mm fan hole. Unfortunately because of my psu choice (X-connect ultra uv), the needed area would be overlapping the psu, meaning, couldn't do it. ![]() Oh well. >: ( I'll have to figure something else out. | ||

Well, you could still do it..........but if you want those ports, you would have to a 5 inch bay model port config.......or just use a 80mm fan up top.........

woah dude...take it easy he's just giving advice in order to help you realize your intended design...in fact you CAN put the 80, 92 or 120mm you just can't put it inside that little beveled area you'd have to clear the entire bevled area in the cut. That's a pretty cool place to put a multi-port area...but a fan could be more helpful if you feel like moving those ports.

| Whoa hey I'm fine lol. Sorry if I sounded threatening. My apologies. All I'm saying is most would get in the way of my power supply. But I do appreciate all the input. I think I've got a few ideas in mind. Possibly as also thinking about cutting an extra design on the other panel with a fogged acrylic, and then putting an extra cold cathode I have under it to illuminate the design. Who knows. | ||

| Whoa Hey, if you don't want it on top then stick it elsewhere. I will be the first to admit that mnpctech has some of the finest products around, but if it won't work in your case just deal with it. There are many other things you can do with that TT case other than putting a fan in the front and we are the guys who can assist you with that. Just let us know how many cutting disks you are willing to purchase. | ||

If i may make a suggestion ManOfMandango i also have 2 of these cases and what i had did was cut the usb/firewire ports out and put a 120mm and put a blue x-connect in there with out any issues and i also did not even have to cut the fan to make it fit with the x-connect .You should be able to do the same thing i did what i would look for is slim line fan which is a lot thinner then a normal size fan would be.On my other case i did not cut out the usb/firewire ports but cut a 120mm fan hole right directly in front of the ports.Well good luck on what ever you try to do on getting a fan mounted up on the top of your case.

| Haha, sorry to make this a bit offtopic, but wow, I just got the Tsunami after buying a xconnect uv blue (is yours blue?) I have to ask you thou, did you manage to cleanly install the psu, because I gave up on one or two screw holes since they just off.... As far modding goes, you could put a CCFL in the handle like I have, but what I'd LOVE to see is someone remove that damn logo from the the top left over the bezel, alcohol or paint thinner maybe? I'd rather see someone do it first for risk of ruining that finish... | ||

HI, I just noticed this thread this morning, sorry to be a liitle late in the answering... I just finished building a system about two months ago and accomplished exactly what your are inquiring about. The MNPCTECH blow hole is JUST big enough to cover the recessed portion of the top of the case once the door is removed. If you are VERY careful with the placement you will never know the ports were up there. I covered the beautiful finish with blue 3M painters tape. It allowed me to protect the finish, a surface to lay out line on, and it doesn't leave a gummy residue when removed. I cut out the entire recessed portion. No power tools required, a case nibbler did the trick. Then I made an .032 aluminum doubler to the same dimensions as the blowhole ring. I used double back tape to stick this to the INSIDE of case. This fills in the gap since the recessed portion is larger than the fan opening and stiffens the area up. Doublers are a common aircraft assembly practice. Don't worry, the MNPCTECH will cover all of this. I didn't use their provided Panaflo fan, I used an LED lit fan. Once you get it all in, it'll look great, but here the rest of the formula comes into play. With that fan in there, you will no longer be able to put a drive in the top bay. The optical drives must be lowered one bay. Then I filled the top bay with the Sunbeam 20 in 1 panel. This gave me all my flash memory card slots since I work in digital photography. It also moved the USB, Firewire and other ports I lost to the front panel. So I not only recovered the "lost ports", but gained in connectivity. For me, I didn't like the top access location for the ports anyway, and preferred the front access. The 20 in 1 panel also has a fan controller, and temp monitor. So, I hooked up my new blowhole to this unit, and also the side fan that came with the case... after exchanging that fan to an illuminated one as well. The whole thing worked out very well. The case is quiet and VERY cool at low fan speeds when running normal applications, when I get busy with video editing I see the temps creep up a bit, so I adjust the fans to compensate. I find the arrangement very functional and it looks great! I'm going to be building several more systems, and I am hoping that MNPCTECH will fab that great looking aluminum billet blowhole in other sizes. Otherwise, I may just have to machine my own.... Have fun! Feel free to PM me with questions and let me know how you made out!

I loaded the Ultra X Connect in my case as well.... Titanium with Blue light. And an identical case and PSU (with other different components) for a friend. As you found out, you can get only two screws to line up properly. I "dry fit" everything before having at it for real. When I saw what was going on, I removed everything and used a small jewelers file to open up each of the holes (somewhat elongated) so that it would fit properly. Then clean the metal dust out of the case! By splitting the error equally among the four screws, I was able to hide the elongated holes with the screw heads normally. Nope, didn't touch the logo. ..........

| Wow, I thought this thread was long dead. That'll teach me to get caught up in my college work. Sorry I haven't replied in a while guys, like I said, I've just been busy. But I have had a few more ideas. Just simple ones atm, I'm afraid. But none-the-less, they're still ideas. ![]() Excuse the piss-poor photoshop job, because I'm doing this right before class, haha. As you can see what I've been thinking about doing is constructing a psuedo-cage to hold a 80mm fan, taking up two 5.25 bays, and then covering the remaining area with some metal mesh; possibly painted black. Also, I've been thinking about just cutting out the vent area at the bottom of the front end and adding in the same black mesh. What do you guys think? Should I cover the entire area with mesh, in the 5.25 bays, as such to cover the fan as well, or cut around it? Whatever else you guys think would also be appreciated. Lets see some replies. | ||
