MOVIE: You don't actually think they spend $20,000.00 on a hammer, $30,000.00 on a toilet seat do you?

Look HERE this a pretty decent guide on how to build a baybus

Or HERE you can buy one

You gotta give us a little something to go on!

Are you looking to make your own, or buy a kit?

Are you looking for switches (7v/off/12v), or rheostats?

If you don't know the answer to these questions....do you know what the "switchy thing in the top bay" is for?

For home made start at www.fanbus.com

There are tons of kits but the easiest place to send you is www.pcmods.com

As for your psu question. Most here would recommend you get a stronger psu if you are planning to add lights and extra fans etc. But it really depnds on your other hardware.

Running a second cheap psu is an option, but is more technically difficult and somewhat cumbersome (I use this method).

Look around, get some ideas. Come back when you have some thoughts on what you may actually want to do.

Default Ok ok the full story

Well here it is

Im getting this old comp from my friends cousin, its not completely amazig but i would use it for low req games like cs and D2. Here are the stats as far as i know:

Atx Standard mobo
P2 450
96 megs of ram(soon to be 256)
13 gig hard drive
Some graphic card(soon to be riva tnt2 unless i upgrade my card which it would then be Geforce 2 MX)
And a Sb Live! 5.1

thats as far as i know. Keep in mind the comp is free. so i figured why not i always wanted to make a pimp case so here was the oppertunity.

the scheme goes like this:

Mirror finish Case (got a guide)
Window on the side(Lucite 'Reminded ofthat simpsons episode')
2 120mm fans front and back
Red cathode tube
all leds at front turned to red
Cd rom and floppy leds turned red (found a few guides on this site)
Baybus 3 switches (control Cathode tube/Fan1/fan2) w/temperature led display
External PS (ripped out of an old 233 Have some ideas on what to do with this one is to put it in the case one is to put it on top stealth it and put like a carnage figureine on it still gathering ideas and make the ps look like a base)

look i dont have many hobbies but this looks fun to do, and this thing just caught my eye and if this case works out the way i think it will, this will not be the last case i build.

Hehe, putwig, I think I've seen a few cases in galleries that have an over-abundance of switches, and many more switches than there are fans installed, in some cases. Just like a few cases that seemed to betray a handle fetish. Those are merely for looks, but to me, it's like putting a hood-scoop on a car without cutting a hole beneath it, to make it functional. Silliness.

I remember this one guy who had a Camaro...he must've really liked the look of a chrome air-cleaner sticking out of a car's hood, so...he took the top lid of a chrome air-cleaner, and bolted it onto the top of his hood. Talk about f***ing dumb. The muscle-car wannabes did some really ricey things that you didn't see most 'real' muscle-car guys doing. (Ever see anything that idiotic, ViperZ? That's pretty bad!)

Back to the point: putting knobs on your case just for looks is just plain dumb. I appreciate a nice blend of [ form | function ], not just emphasizing one, to the detriment of the other.

I have been awlays thinkin that using some of these as switch handels would look cool. They have holes in the back so you could just slip them over the switch and glue it in place.

LMFAO... that's it!!! instead of going through all the cost, time and work of building the engine and cutting the hood i'll just bolt it onto the hood!! why didn't i think of that?!?!

EDIT -- sweet, it worked.. click on the pic for the specds i didn't think you could do that with BBS code

back to the rheostat subject.....i just looked into these things for the first time and am a little confused.

The rheobus thingy that the fans plug into fits in a 5 1/4 drive bay and the fans plug into the rear of it and then it plugs into the power supply......the knobs control the speed of the fans and make things quieter when you dont need full speed cooling, ok, i got all that.

when the actual fans plug into the rear of the rheobus which type of plugs do they use? I ask because the case fans i use (with one exception) are the crystal blue LED fans and use 4 pin molex plugs with only 2 pins in use. would you need adaptors to plug them in, or what? pardon my ignorance, this is the very first time i seriously looked into using such a device.

Thanks for letting me ask my questions in this thread.

peace

Mist, this was even worse than that Mr. Gasket Street Scoop...this was just the top half of a performance air cleaner...such as this:

He just bolted 'er right there in the middle of his Camaro hood! Yep, he sure was laughed at...

@Coel -- I knew what you meant and whil my 'idea" wasn't as bad, it was still rather rediculous (and i've been loking for an excuse to try that picture link anyway

@BZA -- depends. if you build one you can use and kind of connector you want. a lot of people use spring clips like used in the back of home entertainment speakers when building them. they work well. or you could make it with RCA-style plugs... however you want to do it. if you buy a bus you could always (as far as i know) remove the molex connector and solder (or get crimp-on) connectors to match the appropriate plug. conectors can be found at radioshack.

Most kits (as far as I know) require you to hook up bare wires to the connection. They are either spring clips, or screw terminals.

Either way, you just cut the molex connectors off your fans, strip off some insulation, and hook 'em up.

thanks guys for the pointers on the baybus now if i only had an idea of what to do with that extra power supply, if i should make and external case like ive seen in the galleries or place it inside any ideas on where or how to make it of use

Also i wanted to know id i could mount Ide ports outside of my case for another project im thinking about, one im gonna get started after this first one(i hope it turns out well) the swithches are going to be put to good use as i posted before there are gonna be 3 switches possibly 4 if i decide to install a blowhole on the top of my case.

Although i might need some ideas on what to do with the power supplyso anything even if it sounds weird to do with that ps. I cant have a nice looking case with a grey box with black yellow and red wires hanging out of it.

i want it to be part of the case not something seperate that i put on the floor or something. in any case help me out with my case(pardon the pun). well thats all for now.

Thanks in advance

Well, it seems like everybody is putting their extra PSUs on top of or inside their case; try something different, like giving your case four 6" legs, and mounting it underneath your case? Drill 4 holes on the top of the PSU the same size as the existing mounting holes, and instead of using the existing holes, use the ones on TOP to screw it to the underside of your case 'floor'.
