| This is just a thought but have you looked at the top 10 cases lately ? We all know what cases are at top, its the cases which are handbuilt and cases which are origional ( havent been made before) . Well I was just thinkin about all the cases that dont get to be seen becasue most new visitors look at the top 10 cases first and dont bother looking at the rest. I dont know if you guys have ever been to a lowrider show but they have "classifications" for the diffrent types of cars at the show and awards are given to the best of its 'type'. Here in the case gallery we do a "best overall" kinda deal. I beleive there should be calssifications for the cases as well. Here is a way you could break the cases into 'groups'. 1. Normal - cases which contain pre-mods and ones that were purchased. 2. Custom- may be a normal case and contain normal parts but also must contain a part(s) which are only DIY ex. HDD window, beacause you cant just go and buy a HHD with a window installed. 3. Radical- Hand built cases and origional designs I beleive there should be a top 10 for each of those groups and if you wanted to break it down more there could be a top 10 for antec cases,Lan-Li, Exc. And have a ranking like it is now, a 'best overall' And no i didnt post this because my case isnt gettin a good rank. As a matter of fact my case isnt in the gallery yet. I did this just to give the chance to the poor little boy who goes out and buys a an antec instead of building one himself. lol | ||

| I wouldn't say that your suggestion is without merit, or shouldn't be discussed, else why would I reply at all. But I would say that there is a purpose to why the case gallery is set the way it is. Yes the Top Ten are there and could be looked at as an award, or honor. But that isn't the real reason they are there, it also isn't the reason their is a gallery to begin with. The reason there is a gallery and a top ten is to "Inspire" and to encourage others to go beyond what you can purchase and bolt together. There is no real reason to divide the gallery into classes or categories because we arn't out to award "prizes", we are out to promote an art form. | if ya wanna go into "art forms" then i dont think there should be any rating? cause a guy like Wixx has more creativity in his pinky toe than I do in my entire body, but that doesnt mean that the effort to push what creativity i DO posess is not as equal to that of Wixx. when I see his *Caffine Machine* i drool all over myself and pound my brain and come up with something 1/10 as good looking. i pounded my brain just as hard with my mod as he did with his, difference is that he has more creative juice to squeeze out of his brain. If it is really all art, then dont score it. its like grading creative writing projects in school, that never made any sense to me. I always got "A's" whatever that means..... My dad is an artist, so i get this type of debate a lot. I enjoy it. I visit this site and its forums to expand my view of what is possible in case modding, not to hear nice-mannered trolls post comments about "Paint the drives" or the ever popular "Another Rectangular window". if a 17 year old kid lays on a smooth finish with a couple cans of krylon and buys a window kit with the money he saved from mowing lawns, who are we to give him a "4"? its all subjective (like art) untill you score it.....nobody submits pics thinking "I hope this gets a 5!" What would be the harm in removing the rating system? Last edited by BZA; 06-September-02 at 01:59 PM.. | ||

If I was to rank The Caffine Machine ( which i havent yet. Sorry Wixx .) I would give it a 10 not because it looks good but because it encorperates a coffee machine into a case, and for that reason alone. Also i dont beleive anybody should compare their case to Wixx's case (rank wise) beacuse its the 'featured' rig and its the first case you see when you come to pimprig. So when building a case try to build a case that is original and not nessasarily good looking. | |||||||||||||||||||||

| Just a thought and not to be rude. Hellooo Mcflyy??? Why should we honor someone who bought a bunch of pre-mods with their own gallery? If I want to see cases like that I can go to FrozenCpu.com, Directron.com etc. etc... To me they look like installation guides and not modded PCÂ’s. If someone wants to be "TOP TEN" than take the time to be creative. Do it different and better than everyone else does. I can't believe we are even having this argument. Do my eyes decieve me? Seems not to long ago someone (cough cough COEL cough cough) was arguing that too many prebuilt cookie cutters were in the top 10 and the REAL work, the REAL mods, the people who put more love and time and not more money into their PCÂ’s were not in the top 10. I think that if someone adds a window and some lighting and cleans up the wiring thatÂ’s cool. But is it worthy of a top 10? Hell No. And I earned the right to say that as all my cases have a few minor touches I call my own. But nothing I have is up to the par of the "caffeine machine", the hellraiser cube, or any of the REAL clean REAL sweet ass original stuff. Hence none of my PC's are in the TOP TEN. I don't see the sense in splitting the gallery like that. And who are we to judge who belongs in what category? Just my two cents any rebuttals to that. I know someone has to agree with me. | Hmmm... the boy might have a point... Still, there are two catagories... Top Ten for hits and Top Ten for ratings. So if it's really good... it'd be in either one (my rig isn't in either, so I'm not biased on that one). Also, would I want a "caffeine machine" myself? Nope. Do I admire the work and skill that went into it? Hellz yeah! I think that they (the oddities) made top ten 'cause they DO stand out... they also probably make people want to see what other crazy 5|-|17 the folks around here can do! ![]() | ||

| It's all subjective. Some abuse the system because they lack the maturity to utilize it responsibly. I put a case in the gallery a long time ago, under a different alias, when I was first into case modding. It's average score is somewhere between 3 and 4, but I don't really care, because I was just learning @ the time and because I do case mods for me. If you don't like my work, that's your business, and if you do, hopefully I can inspire you to create something bigger and better. Bottom line is that any kind of case voting system is going to be subjective, and therefore vulnerable to human imperfections. | ||

| it's all about the creativity. I opened up my last PCGamer Mag and it's filled with "premodded" PCs. How is that "fun"? It's not! Right now I'm about 80% done with my case and to be honest now I'm bored with it because the work is almost done! Some famous somebody said something about hiking the Appalachian trail (2,000+miles) that went like this, "In the end it wasn't the joy of finishing the hike, it was conquering the obstacles along the way." My point (if I have one) is that the end result of the mods, (i.e. what you see in the gallery) is not the point or the goal most of the time in modding. The point is to be creative, and in doing so, tackle the problem of turning a bland PC case into an art form worthy of residing on your desk. The real fun is in doing the work, and being proud of accomplishing stuff with your own hands. With my current case in the finishing stages, it looks good, It's an antec 1030sxb so it can't be TOO origional, but what I've done with it is very origional, took a LOT of work and now with it I am quite pleased. However the real pleasure of building it wasn't the end result but first the things I've learned, and second having to do something that I've never before done. Ok I think i even lost MYSELF here but anyways suffice it to say I agree there shouldn't be a regimented "grading" scale on the cases. The only person who can truely grade your case is yourself. Did you do your best, have fun, and learn something, too? If so, who am I to tell you your case isn't as good as "Joe's" case because Joe owns a professional paint shop? | ||
