I thought I'd post this thread and see what kind of creative juices might start flowing.

What are some of your ideas, things you've never seen done before? Not necessarily something you're working on (most people usually keep their project ideas under wraps), but something that has occurred to you and makes you wonder, "has anyone tried that?"

Mist's idea for a CD drive lid opening from the top is the basis for this topic. Here are a few of my own:

-how about a case where ALL the drive bays are somehow stealthed, instead of each bay, individually

-how about a clear case with designs painted with clear colors to look tinted like glass

-a totally chrome, gold, bronze, etc. metallic-look case

-more cases with something interesting done to the side panel closest to the motherboard

What about some project themes that you'd like to see, like Halloween, horror movies, Elton John, Marilyn Manson, your favorite candy, Christmas, you name it...anything. Anything OTHER than what's in the galleries.

Maybe this topic will give us some fresh ideas and continue to advance case modding. Should be interesting!

We've talked about it before, but I haven't seen it yet. A hub/router in a drive bay or maybe on the back. It would come in handy at a LAN party that may be short a few connections.

I'm working with my friend on his computer and we are looking to make a tinted type glass that will reflect the light while making the glass have a chrome type tint to it. We know how to get it done, just gotta see if a certain person will do it for us

Another idea that may be cool that literally just came to my mind, would be a bay tool box. Most likely using the 5" bays, but you can pull it out and bam, there's some of the more handy tools for working on your computer or maybe some extra screws, etc.

or there are severl comapnies that sell home stained glass kits. you could have the sistine chapel on your pc

i am working on a themed project right now dedicated to my favorite band using my old amd k6 266.

i had worked on this idea a while back, granted, it was kinda half-herted, but the idea i came up with would havve needed a small magnetic field which, needless to say, is not the best idea to have on the dront of the drive bays.

PM me if you are interrested in what i came up with, but i don't think it's really worth posting here unless there are a few people that want it or someone that honestly wants to work the idea out in a "work thread"....

what about a PC where the parts themselves are hanging on rods of steel of various lengths and balance eachother out. Like a mobile made by Kalder? (sp) A large stand would rest on the desktop in a big "C" shape and the pieces (HD, MOBO enclosure, CD-roms etc) would hang in balance?

the airflow would be awesome, just open air circulation.

the Inertial movements of the HD platters would cause the pieces to ocelate as if they were blown by the wind.

OR!

along those same lines, what about a steel tree, with each "limb" supporting a different piece of hardware? like.....the Power supply could be on the base of the tree with the cables coming up through the tubular steel "trunk" and then the molex plugs etc could extend along the branches to the various components.!

again, airflow would be open air and the piece would require some regular dusting, but imagine the look!

i doubt that any of you have seen these but they have these piggy banks that are a cube with a mirror inside and a pyramid shaped peice of plastic glude onto the mirror and positioned so that if gives the illusion of a cube floating inside. and when you put in money it falls behind the mirror so that you cant see it..my idea was to make a case like that. i bought that piggy bank so i could see how it works, and it turns out that its pretty simple.

time to bust out the plexi and black paint

How about one with wireless everything (VGA, keyboard, mouse, sound, all powered by battery) also attached to powered wheels so you can sit at your desk, use your computer and at the same time race it around the room like a remote-controlled car?

What about a single large door, that opens from the side/top/bottom, motorized and wired to open when any of the drives recieves and eject command?


As for ideas, I've had an idea bouncing around in my head for a month or so. Image a pyramid, stretched up 2 or 3 times. Now invert it, and mount the motherboard on the base, with the drives spaced down the sides. There's a support bar that holds the PCI and agp cards up and in place. Now, the bottom 1/3 is clear, and is the resevoir for the water(tinted) cooling system. The rest of the case is lined with car window tint, with strategically placed leds overs the drives, which have all been stripped of their casing. Also, the water tubes are square, against the sides of the case and illuminated. Then, imagine the whole thing on a steel stand hanging over the monitor, point down, which has a matching paint job. That's the basics of it, I had a lot of other little details as well, but with the complete failure of my attempt to modify the case frame I had to form the base, I'm a little down right now, and don't believe it's something I'll ever be able to complete.

So there's my idea, anyone have feedback on the case than will never be?

heh, the basics were a bit vague, imagine the pyramid is a lot taller, and is flipped so the point is down. Does that make it a little easier for ya?

Total customs are really the only way now to be different, since just like sex, it's almost all been done before.

A couple of my idea's are:

a total sphere case, that acts like a weeble wobble.

maybe a pc with a built in lcd projector so you wouldn't need a monitor.

Total entertainment center based pc, like a 32" monitor that doubles as a tv (my friend has one I hate him) with the pc built into it, and with a tape deck, vcr, reciever, etc. etc.. all made into one.

a digital camcorder built into a book pc so you could record straight to the hd. have a slightly larger than average camcorder screen (which the the pc would use as a monitor) so you can edit your footage on the fly thru the pc without having to transfer the video between the two and be able to output straight to tv or hook up an external burner (dvd or cdrw) and have almost instant hardcopies.

and a couple other I am working on that I plan on saving till they are done.

Wixx do you know anything that will work for wirless VGA, ive been looking for it but havent found anything yet.??

the case of life ?

it is covered in grass like a chia pet, it has a waterfall, a window on front to view the plants inside ,and a HDD shell with a window on top which is filled with brime shrimp.

This is my wireless weather station



It measures 9" x 6" x 1.5" (about the size of a small book) and I can move it around anywhere in the house, as it wireless, battery, solar, or AC 110 powered.

Using this makes me want to make a simular sized PC panel that employs a touch screen LCD panel, and allows the person to walk around the house surfing the net or accessing the main server via wireless access.

The panel doesn't really need the PC parts such as hard drive..etc. It just needs a base that has all the hardware and transmits and receives the VGA signal and LCD commands wirelessly to a LCD panel.

Of course this would not be an easy task due to the huge amount of capitol and development required, however a person can dream and work toward the goal in small stages.

Let me know if you come acroos anything that would work or fit this idea.

Hehe, you certainly haven't dashed MY dreams. I was careful not to mention any ideas I'm working on, because I know nobody's done them before.

Already been done. I've seen two in our own galleries that have attached, functional LCD screens. I assume that's what you meant by "LCD projector"....?

And, you say you aren't loaded! Geez, I wonder how many people can afford a portable weather station...my idea of portable weather monitoring is my right hand. I put it out the window and I can instantly determine the following data:

-temperature (hot or cold?)
-rain or shine (hand wet = raining; hand warm = sunny)
-humidity (palm sweaty = humid; palm dry = arid)
-wind conditions (hand moves = windy; wind direction also recorded; hand still = calm weather)

And, it cost me...all of nothing!
