Default RIP, dtron case frame.....

And now for a moment of silence. The case frame I ordered from directron for my new setup died a painful death yesterday, at the hands of a welder. Oh case, I hardly knew ye....

So as a temporary fix, I've ordered the matrox mid-tower from directron. I've decided to go with a few simple mods on this one and keep the look relatively clean.

The lesson that I learned from this is there's only so far you can push a premade case before it's simply incapable of supporting a design that requires building from the ground up. I was attempting to alter the basic geometry of the case while maintaining the structural integrity of key parts, and it simply wouldn't work. Sadly, there's not even enough of the frame intact now to use as parts for the next case. So, I'm going back to the drawing board and am going to attempt to keep the cool stuff from this design, while designing out all the things I didn't like.

So keep an eye out for my moderately modded Matrox case in the very near future, and my scratch built pimpring worthy case sometime between now and xmas

Why didn't you just build your own from scratch? Seems like a waste of money to cut a case up so bad that you can't even use it.

would it be easier just to make a nice case of of some nice looking pieces of wood or what have you why waste all that money on a case that u are going to end up tearing aprt any way personally i would NEVER touch a case with a welder unless u know 110% what you are doing

just get the case put ur computer in it and leave it alone and maybe in the future you will think twice b4 doing that again

just out of wonder what kind of case was it

It was a generic case frame I got for $10 plus shipping. Directron offered them dirt cheap. not sure if they still do, but it was a great foundation if all you planned on keeping was the frame. I got too ambitious(you can't make a rectangle into a triangle easily).

Ive been thinking of making a homemad cas I got some pretty good welding skillz, I think a home made steel case would weigh to much, like 100 pounds to much. I would have to ask my dad about how thin of metal you can weld.

How can it die if your welding?...lol...Just fabricate, patch and keep welding.

Metal dont die, its reborn.
