Default My automatic Frontdoor

Hi you guys,

I forgot to tell you about my frontdoor that opens and closes automaticly.
You can see them in my gallery http://gallery.pcapex.com/showphoto....cat=500&page=1
or download here http://files.bighosting.net/ml16509.avi
For now I'll tell how I made it.
Maybe later I'll write a small instruction in "other modding" how to do it.

I took an old cd-burner and ripped it from its slide-mechanism.
But I reversed it so, instead of the slide going open en shut, the motor drives up and down the slidetrack.

The one I made has a 2-way switch with led indication .
These led's are to show me if the mechanism has reached its end-points.

So when I open the upper LED burn untill it has broken its end contactor-- LED turns of and the circuit is reversed to be closed again.
When I shut it the lower LED burns untill its endpoint---citcuit reverse.

This has caused me a lot of work.

So to make it easy I suggest a 3-way switch open-idle-close.

I've made it so commplicated because I had to be sure the circuit was broken when the door shut.
A few times there was a suspicious smell coming out my exaust-fan.
So I had to make it visible through LED's.

So got to find an old cd-player and than I'll try to write an instruction with a few photo's.

And of course a few people have to be interrested.

Grtz

Id think a cool automatic door could use your stock optical drives with a little bit of modding. Ill try to explain this like it makes sense in my head. Disable the latch on the door, mount some sort of rail to the inside of your door and attach an anchor point to the inside corner of your drive, so when it opens or closes the point slides along the rail opening and closing the door.

hey guys

sorry I totally forgot about how the motordriven part pushes open the door.
It's pushed open with a rod, here is a picture.

Someday later I'll give a detailed overview.
Find an old player ,strip it ,take some pictures an things like that.

Oh yeah please report if the link is broken, because I can't open it and I don't have
the file anymore because a had a virus on my PC

Thanks

Grtz

Nice creative mod Lite_user.
I tried to help a friend do something like this with no success. Congrats on getting it to work. Now if you can do a door that goes "SHHHH" open like in Star Trek.....

Talking little video

hey guys

here is a GIF , hopes it explains a bit how it works.

you take out the cd-tray and take the motordrive-part(blue) with it,
make sure the drivepart stays connected to the tray.
Connect a rod between door and drivepart and Presto.
so at the end you get something like the GIF-scheme.

here a picture of how the tray should be positioned.

When my cousin gets back from Italy, he's giving skiing lessons threre,
i'll use his old dvd-player the put together some sort of guide.

see you soon

and yes it works for right and left opening doors.

I've got a cd-writer drive, so I'll be taking that one apart ,finaly.
