I bought a nice red(pink) CCF light and I'm really not happy with the color of it. I was thinking about getting some blue celephane tape to make it purple. anyone had any luck doing this or any advise about changing the color of my light?

PS, you can see a picture of the light in my gallery. I think purple would go much better with the green

you could always wrap the light in your favorite color of saran wrap, or transparent craft paper..

I've used cellophane for several mods (went to the craft store and bought some rolls of the non-adhesive colored stuff they use for wrapping gift baskets). But my mods were to make clear plexi look colored, not to change the color of a light.

My advice for wrapping a CCFL would be to cut the cellophane to width, wrap it several times around the light tube, then use regular Scotch tape to hold it in place. A single layer wouldn't do much of anything to change the color, but a half-dozen might.

Course, CCFL's are cheap enough that it might cost the same to just get some purple or UV light tubes...

Here's one mod. I used two layers of green cellophane behind this clear Xbox jewel, and put a mirror underneath:

if by chance you want it to be a nice red color, you can always go to a local car shop and pick up some red window tint and stick it around the cathode........

That is one pretty sweet xbox jewel. I would do that exept for two reasons:
1. I am afraid of messing up the xbox case in a way which is unrepairable.
2. I am afraid of voiding my warranty, then breaking a part i shouldn't have.

i tried red cc's a while back.... gave up and did the one thing you can do if you want a nice red color

Well, if it helps, you can get a lot of replacement XBox parts at Llamma.com. I wasn't worried about the warranty on mine; I think it had run out a year before I did that mod anyway.

If you ever do decide you want to do that jewel mod, I might be able to give you some good timesaving pointers..

It lights up too by the way (using an 80mm round cathode), but I kinda like the look of it unlit. The light's a lot more even looking than in the pic.

Sorry, but when you open up your xbox, does it trigger something so that you can't play on XBOX live anymore?

I ended up using a blue widetip sharpie marker. It actually turned out better than I thought, but the marker rubs off easy. hopefull this won't be a problem. Either way, I like it better than the pink so I guess I got my 2.99 worth.

EDIT:Here's some pics, before and after. Cool thing is, the ends stayed pink, I like the way they look.

Wow, ok sorry that made me chuckle a little bit. No it will not kick you out of Live, but booting your xbox with an illegal bios and an 80 gig maxtor will

I only mod my computer, of which i don't care about warranties. Computer parts (video card exempt ) are much cheaper than an xbox. Don't mean to be rude, i'm just telling you that i don't have all the money in the world. :-\
