Default all purple! booya

My friend needs a new computer, so it's being built with an all purple theme (it's for a girl)

http://andrevas.sbcars.net/images/bekki's%20new%20computer.jpg

When I get unlazy I'll sleeve the ATX cable.

Looks pretty sick if you ask me.

Yeah I am, I sleeved that PSU and used a lighter for the heat shrink, ghetto fabulous! Hard to do though it's easy to burn if you're not careful.

Ya know a hair dryer works pretty well, and is a bit safer for heatshrink

My normal hairdryer was MIA and the one I had on hand wasn't getting hot enough. Lighter worked fine this time, though.

I've found that if you use the "torch" type butaine lighters, they work real well. you can usually find them at convience store checkouts and they are refillable. My buddy calls them crack lighters. anyway, they work.

Nice work. Is that an ECS motherboard? They don't make the best mobos, but they're solid and they have good website support (unlike many other cheap-o brands), and many have a beautiful purple PCB. I've almost considered using an ECS mobo in a future project, also with a purple theme (but it's not just for girls, I'm thinking Plum Crazy, a color Chrysler used for many muscle-cars in the late 60's and early 70's, such as the Challenger & Super-bee). That color of purple, with a nice purple ECS mobo, and some bright chrome trim, would really rock.

Unfortunately, you can't overclock ECS boards, they're pretty much full auto-detect.

If ECS had this board out at the time of purchase, I would have used it probably.

http://www.ecsusa.com/products/kn1.html

It's not expensive (but Newegg doesn't have it in it's stock list anymore...wtf?), and can actually overclock (you can set Vdimm up to 3.11V O_O)

316 HTT is nothing to sneeze at...

So if you want to do your own project, this is probably your board. Your other options that would work well are any black PCB board, specifically Soltek's because all the slots etc. are purple on black PCB.

Purple PCB video cards are damn rare finds, and noone makes a black PCB card that has great performance IMO.

To keep everything matched up for the PCB and still be fully upgradeable for awhile and have great performance, I didn't match the PCB to the theme in this one. It's a Chaintech VNF4 Ultra and a Gigabyte X700 Pro 128, both have the same color blue PCB which still looks good.

The only other thing I am having trouble with are purple thumb screws. Performance-PCs doesn't have them in stock right now and they told me it will be a long time until they have them again. I have yet to recieve my order from So Trick, and it's been a few months, so don't buy them from there. I will be filing a fraud claim probably next week after shooting off more emails to them. If anyone knows anybody that works for So Trick please tell them to mail me my damn dozen of purple thumbscrews! >_<

-I had trouble finding green thumbscrews too. None of the online modding stores had them (though some advertised them, there were none in stock or the pictures showed green ones, but they didn't sell them). But I walked into a local PC parts store, and happened to see a package of 10 green anodized screws, probably sitting on the shelf forever, and I picked 'em up. Sometimes you just gotta keep your eyes open and hope for some good luck.

hint with the lighter trick to all of those apartment modders out there that dont have fancy tools or a hairdryer. Just use the blue part of the flame when heating your heatshrink, as in the bottom part of the flame and you wont have any problems whatsoever.

Purple case here with some gold bling internals.
