I wanted a new computer for gameing and i knew the only way to go was to build my own.. so i started shopping and put togethor this..
amd xp 1800+
geforce 4 t4400
ak32-l shuttle Mboard
40gig 7200 rpm western digital
256mgb crucuial ram (plan to buy another stick)
atapi cd-rw 40x
foxconn supercase

i sent away for the case first thing, becaus i knew there were some changes i wanted to make to it b4 i put togethor the computer..
when i got the case, first thing i did was take off the side panel and go to my friends work, there he has a plasma arc cutter.. i was able to put a pretty nice dragon design on it..

i built my computer.. then came time to paint it, i searched for tips on the internet...
that was when i found out that "modding" is actually a big thing that alot of people do.. so, for abut 2 weeks now ive been living on these forums and this site...

just wanted to thank insomniac for his how-to article.. and the people on this forum for throwing out so much info..

i plan to have pics of my case when its done.. need to buy lights for it (the dragon is hard to see until there is a light shining through it)

i think its pretty original, ive only seen one case wiht custom cuts in it like mine..

well, sorry for it beeing so long but i had lots to say

Sounds sweet dude, and inexpensive to boot for such a nice computer. Although it's not top of the line, that will seriously compete. I like the supercase a lot too, and, although I don't know what color you've painted it, I'd really like to see the results.

its got a blue front, so of course, im going with the blue lights (i know, just like everyone and there father)

but i painted it black.. and i painted all the buttons on the CD-RW and cdrom chrome (to match the power and reset switches)

around the outside of the power button, there is a green LEd that glows.. im gonna switch it out for a blue one.. im also putting a window in the top, probably in a wierd shape..

i see alot of people talking abut cutting with dremmels.. but isnt a plasma cutter much easier?? i know they are expensive, but u guys gotta know someone with one.

my father is a sculptor and he has all the toys, MIG welders, TID welders, Plasma cutters, pneumatic grinders etc etc etc

i thought he would make fun of me for cutting up my computer to make it look cool but when he saw it he was like "AWE, you should have brought it down, we could have done some crazy stuff with my tools!"

not to mention he has a professional paint booth and about a gazillion colors of automotive paint.

at least I'll know next time.

if there is a next time.

yeah, take a vo-tech course on welding. just buying a welder will cost you some serious cash. the brand of all my dads stuff is "Daytona" i think, the cases are red and black, it may be "Dayton"....anyway, they are pretty expensive.

Welding isnt really all that difficult, Dad used to let me tack-weld his pieces together and practice on scraps and stuff. it is all about keepin that wire feeding into the seam and a steady hand. a clean weld is a thing of beauty, and a sloppy weld can ruin a project.

his welding helmet was the coolest, it was one of those flash-black kinds that are clear (no shade) until the ultra bright spark lights up and that causes the face shield to go black, so you dont have to to the big head-nod to tip the face shield down. the welding helmet alone was like $450.

fun toys!
