Post Hugala, Hugala, Hugala... Just read :)

Hi all

As you see I'm new and I apologise about my subject/thread title, I just didn't know what to call it, and whats on top of that, I didn't know where to post it anyway, Lets say that I have a Packard Bell PC and I want to move my PC Hardware (Organs) to a new case, would that work?

Secondly, you can paint your own case right?
Thirdly, when you saying Case Modding, you don't mean making your own case do you?

thanks

1. Sure, but you might have a problem with the optical drive bezels (the front of the DVD or CD-Rom) fitting into a new case.

2. Why not?

3. Sometimes.

I had a Fony Vaio some time ago that I thought about moving to a new case, but the motherboard was a "propriatary" motherboard meaning that the holes on the board would only match up with the holes in a
Fony case. What would I do? I'd salvage everything you've got except the motherboard, buy a new motherboard that fits an industry standard, and put it all back together again.

Oh, welcome to PR.

Rob

Ummm, not to hate on your PC but when was the last time Packard Bell made a computer? I'd invest in some other partsfirst, but do as you please.

It still has a useful organs ya'know

Thanks Rob...

one more question I promise, okay... well two quesions:
  1. If you wanted to build a PC from scratch, I mean a High performance PC for graphics and gaming, how much would you be looking to spend? not including the monitor
  2. In the case, can you have your own window cut shape, plastic see-through
cheers

I haven't seen one in sooo long I thought they were out of business. Anyway, welcome to PR mwarsame. Unless the parts are proprietary you should be able to put it all in a new case. Since you are apparently new to all this that might not be a bad way to get your feet wet.

As far as modding goes it can be anything from adding a window or paint to building a case from scratch. It all depends on your ability, desire and pocketbook.

Some brands are very propreititary (sp?) and the boards wont fit the holes on another case tray. I had this trouble with moving a dell dimension to a Antec case. All you have to do to solve this delema is buy or barrow a tap and die set and create the holes nessicary. I would not reccoment just drilling the holes and hoping that the screws will tread themselves and go in straight... I've had very bad experiences with that...

The AMD and Intel debate has been known to start a few heated debates, so i will give my take on it: AMD is a great budget system, and great for overclocking if you can either a) find an unlocked XP b)buy a mobile XP (and at this i might be wrong), or c) afford 64.

Intel has it's own perks (i personally am an AMD guy, but work on a P4 2.8 at work, and have no problems with it.)

Another suggestion (and i am surprised it hasn't been suggested) is to look through the galleries. Each case has its own reason for being up, each looks absolutely amazing or incredibly bad (all personal taste), but the main point being that they were all made with the abilities that the individual has, and to each of their own tastes, sometimes with input of others, sometimes not. (WHAT A RUN-ON!!)

Just remember to have fun, enjoy what you are doing, and make it so that YOU like it.

I say this with no ego, due to the fact that i have been to other sites, and although they have high-caliber work, none have the comradre(sp?) nor the family like atmosphere that is here.

Enjoy your stay (I for one, hope that it lasts). Welcome to PR!

EDIT: (To the post dropped while i was still typing)...Who doesn't like PR? Those few that have banned....namely a few that seemed to have helped and then just done something incredibly STUPID!

aka spammers and hoaxers... are the only ones really banned others are just rep slapped.

But they are only jealous of the stuff that people around here create. Truly this is the place to get help with anything do-it-yourself on a computer at a professional grade quality.

the PB's mobo mounts to the bottom of the case and pci cards are mounted in a riser,so this pretty much rules out a transplant.
and PB isn't out of business, due to support issues they stopped selling in the US market.
