Default X-Connect Ultra PSU HELP!

hey everyone, i bought the Ultra X-Connect PSU a couple months ago, and i was wondering i dont want to ruin my colour sceme by buying a UV light to equip the cables to turn blue...my question to you is, if i bought a BLUE UV fan would that work to?

yes, as long as the fan has UV leds in it. If the fan is blue UV reacitve, then that pretty much says just the fan will be reactive. It's funny you posted this thread, as superficial as it may seem, I'm in the exact same boat. Not sure what I'm going to do about it myself.

That might help, I would suggest a cold cathode or two though.

Snap up some UV Lazer LED's... they're -so- damn easy to hide, and they'll light your rig up nice and pretty too...

...personally, I use the blue LazerLED's as my main case lighting, along w/ my blue led fans... and its a big tower, and its a nice blue glow throughout.

Hmm well in that case you could (carefully of course) take off the top of your psu and replace the fans there with some uv fans. That might work just as well. Do what you wish though, I'm sure it'll turn out well.

Those blue UV-housed fans DO have UV LEDs in them, but the LEDs are aimed to light up the surrounding UV-reactive housing, and not really good for nearby parts. If you look at the following picture, I have a 12" UV CC on the bottom, which very nicely illuminates the 2 lower PCI slot covers. The other slot covers are sort of blocked by the NIC and the UV PCI card cooler, so the UV cathode doesn't hit them. However, the UV PCI card cooler does. And you can see that, although it causes SOME reaction on the upper 2 PCI slot covers, it is nowhere near the brightness as the CC did.

So, I wouldn't count on UV LED fans or card coolers or such to be too good at lighting up your UV components. Better to dedicate a UV cathode to the task, or aim some UV LEDs directly at the components.

I just found on www.xoxide.com they have blue CC that are also UV. This should solve your problem.

My opinion, send that Ultra X-Connect back and get a better PSU, those things are hazardous to your computer.

Ordered two of these myself yesterday for my current mod project. It may not be what you need, but then again, it may.

I always think twice before ordering items from companies that enhance their ad images...let's not forget Flexiglow paints, where the vendor obviously enhanced their images to make them appear a lot more glow-y...

Sorry bro, I was just trying to help, I know quite a few people that bought that PSU and it wound up melting their entire system. It's rails are unstable, and I figured I'd try to give you a heads up. In MaximumPC's stress test it started smoking. Just trying to offer some help, my bad.

Actually, Megatron I think maybe you missed this forum post:
http://forums.pcapex.com/showthread....highlight=gift

That addresses the X-Connect PSU and all the reviews associated with it.

In addition MaxPC did write in either this month or last months issue, "It is quite possible we did receive a defective X-Connect PSU model. We may revisit this product to review it at a later time."

Yes, I did miss that thread, and I'm sorry that I didn't see that before I posted. While I still have had friends that have had major problems with that PSU, if godlygreek is comfortable using it that's fine with me.
Thanks Foe for explaining it the way you did.

Hey, those dual-color CC's are a pretty good idea! (Both blue and UV tubes inside.) I wonder how that would look with red + UV or green + UV? Personally, I like the UV CC I got from bigfootcomputers...it emits a blue light, not purple, but the light is not really that bright. But it lights up UV-reactive components very well, without setting my entire case interior awash in light. For the Pisces case, that's exactly what I wanted, and I was lucky the CC's performed that way.

yea its alright...dont worry about it... the PSU is fine for what i need it for. I actually did my research for about a month before i got the Ultra X-Connect. For MY SITUATION <---key words...this power supply is what i needed because it has Good Quality, Good Price, and i needed one with 500W because the theme/project I am currently working on requires a lot of lighting. The cables also help incorporate a unique way of light.

P.S. Keep a look out for my project when its done. Heres a hint... It shows patriotism.

I have an Ultra X but only use 2 of the cables, the 20-24 pin MB cable and the PCI Express cable. All the rest were custom made and sleeved by me to more closely match my color scheme. I have had no problems with my Ultra.
