| Apex Techie Wannabe | Well, That's the question! I'd like to mount a motherboard directly to the wall (kinda like a functional picture). I'm not sure what the best material to mount it to would be, I.e. sheet of plywood, sheet metal, etc. Any ideas would be great. Thx | |

| Welcome to PR ..intresting topic! Ive seen wooden frames being used as a wall mount, however they arent the easiest things to look good. Might I suggest you try making a fram for the rig, and wall mount it? so the drive stick outward, with the motherboard against the wall so to speak? Metal is pretty heavy for a wall mount, and acrylic my not be strong enough unless it was at least 1/2" thick. What do you intend using? ITX, mini ATX or full size ATX? | ||

| Sounds to me like what you really need to do is mod/make a case that is designed so that the entire think can be mounted inside the wall between two studs, but designed in a way that it looks as if it's mounted to the wall on the surface only. That's how I would approach it. Design a blue print and layout. Measure everything up. Build the case, mount a sheet of whatever your wall is covered with onto the surface of the case, but it lies under the mobo and select other components. Cut hole in wall, Run wiring inside the wall to outlets for Cat5, Speaker wires, maybe even mouse/keybourd, and a USB hub. Hammer in a 2x4 at the base of the hole to support the case. Mount the case, and finish cleaning it all up so it looks like the wall was never cut. P.S., if you going to be changing out components you really better plan this out well ![]() EDIT: oh, and if you're not the owner ? Well, if one of my daughters did this to my house, she would not survive it ![]() | ||
