| Now, albeit i'm a newbie to this site, i've been modding for quite a while now. Anyway, for my last build I couldnt work out what colour LED fans to fit so I thought it would be a good idea if I could change the colour whenever I wanted without the hassle of replacing fans/LED's so I did a little research and found that something suitable wasnt pre-made and doesnt appear to have been done before. So as I really like original modding I made these. Here's a link to them MY 1st FAN MOD ATTEMPT To be fair they were a real pain in the backside as getting all the series resistors wired up to the LED legs individually and fitting heatshrink to everything. As you can see from the pics one of the blue LED's died (mainly because I snapped the leg off). Only downside is that replacing anything on them once theyre done is to hard as I had to superglue the LED's into the fan. Anyway, hope you all like em. | ||

| Etiquette & English Gentleman | Looks good Superglue though? I'd be worried about the effect that would have on the plastic ... it didn't leave (ahem) a white residue? I've been thinking about getting a hot glue gun - you could just slap a bit across the back of the LED & fan frame, it'll hold until you ping it off. www.screwfix.com has them for a tenner upwards. The cable ties suck, btw ![]() | |

| Thanks, superglueing probably wasnt the best idea but it seemed so at the time until I tried to remove that dodgy blue one and found it was melted to the casing (quick bashing with the cordless drill sorted that). Cable ties to go shortly, on the finished versions i'm gonna replace them with green UV braided sleeving over the wiring and the ends to be sealed with green UV heatshrink as it'll match up well with my motherboard as all the slots are green UV reactive | ||

| Thanks, I'm thinking of replacing all the LED's on the next ones with full colour RGB LED's. They can produce nearly any visible colour by adjusting some pot's hooked up to them, ifI do it right I can have one set of small controls to change the colour of all the fans to be exactly the same. Think the PSU is gonna be the next bit to mod out. Last edited by Designer; 02-December-04 at 08:30 PM.. | ||

| If you're feeling generous you could send out emails to all the fan manufacturers and show them your stuff. They will most likely use your idea to some extent and may or may not pay you, but if they make them you get the satisfaction of knowing it is your idea sitting in a lot of peoples' cases. You could also try to patent the idea, but I'm not sure how fruitful that would be. In any case, those are some very sweet fans you have there. I can't wait to see the RGBs. | ||

| Thanks peeps, I didnt expect to get such a great reaction to those as it's only a small mod. Don't thin it would be worth getting a patent as all they gotta do to rip you off if move a bit here, o that bit different and then it's no longer protected by a patent. Think i'll post off to the manufacturers. | ||

| it would be insaine if you took liek a 3.5" blank plate, put 3 variable resisters(knobs) and have each on on an rgb led, then you would tone them into any color via changin the resistance and brightness with the knob(or include everythign but the plate, but add a cardboard cutout card). if you did this id buy em for like 20bux each from you. | ||

| ime sure if they liked it enuf, they would give ya a little credit via modle number letters. i think ic you did some nice ps or cad work for it, then sent that to companies you woudl jsut a much better responce than jsut the idea in text. mabye you could bum soem cad work of one of the local cad pimps. | ||

| Nice modded fan but it has been done and with more effects too. Have you ever seen madlights? There are fans that do the same thing with alot more choices for on, off, blinking, fading between colors...etc. It's great that you did your own mod though nothing is more satisfiing than doing it yourself. | ||
