| Apex Techie Wannabe | alright, i've just recently got into case modding... and i'm looking to buy an alienware or an antec... the thing is i dont want the alienware graphics or writing on the case itself, so do i go with antec? also... where is a good site i can order the specified case? thanks, xaq | |

| Welcome to the forum, xaq. You will find that most people are do it yourselfer's and don't really care for the Alien stuff. Instead of Antec, look at Directron.com or Newegg.com and check out the Chieftec cases. They are absolutely the same case made by the same manufacturer but costs mucho less. Let us know how we can help in your modding endeavors. | ||

| Xaq, Welcome, BA is right but for another reason, Directron.com will give you a discount for being a member of Pimprig.com and AZZO.com Im not sure, but might. But they are great there and have great quality cases. | ||

| Apex Techie Wannabe | thanks for all the info... im looking at getting a Cheiftec DX-01BD... the mid tower... probably black... but my question is about the windows... is it better to buy a window kit... or to build your own from scratch??? and what you can buy from hardware places? | I'd go with buying a sheet of plexi from a hardware store. plexi runs cheap at 6 bucks for a 18" by 2" sheet. I'd go with just buying a sheet of plexi because with a window kit, you gotta wait for shipping. Also you have to cut the hole in your case exactly to the window cuz there is a locking strip. With regular plexi, you just cement or glue the plexi behind the case panel and you can make all sorts-a crazy shapes with regular plaxi. | ||

| Personally, I tend to think the door edge molding (chrome, I've also seen gold at Canadian Tire, but have yet to see someone use gold door molding on a case) or no molding at all (make sure you do a REALLY clean window cut, though, as a rough-cut window would look piss-poor) looks best. I don't like that inch-thick ugly, puffy black molding that you get with the kits. If I were to do a window (which is quite unlikely), I would make sure the window edges are clean and perfect, and I'd attach plexi without any molding. I would probably attach it with a few small screws, as few as possible (i.e. if I were doing a square or rectangle window, heaven forbid , 4 screws should suffice). | ||

| I dunno man, it must be you. ![]() I'd rather see 4 or even 8 small-head counter-sunk screws than full-perimeter inch-thick and 1/4-inch high puffystuff molding. I even think pop-rivets would look better. Failing all that, you could just glue the plexi to the inside of the panel, and I even bet that long hidden strips of velcro would do the trick. Just my ideas, anyway. But I've got the (dis)advantage of having seen FAR FAR too many puffystuffed windows... LOL | ||
