MORE POWER!!!!....do you smell something?

One of our customers came in and was having problems with his case mod....well more like lighting.....and it was causing problems with his MOBO running stable...seems that it was randomly shutting off....so Alienat0r takes it all apart...it is the end of the day...so I go home......

It is a hot August night...and the A/C is barley working....and sleep is imposible....so I wander back to the shop at midnight or so and see what is up with the system that Alienat0r was working on.

well...belive it or not....the P/S was toast....but after some really warm air and some picks...I was able to get most of the charred plastic and charcoal out of the MOBO's power header and was able to post the board.....just damn lucky.....

From the looks of the pics, I would have thought that mobo was toast.

It was the 5V rail which leads me to believe a short other than the lights. This looks like it was going to happen regardless of the hardware.

Whoo! Much worse than my last assist, just a power supply that would shut off with a tap to the back of the case. Old Gateway's never die, just the Power Supply!

This is why you need to invest in a high quality PSU and clean up your case to prevents shorts.

Yikes that scare me if I open my case and saw that !!! I be thinking my system was toast.

.....zip ties and don't use X-mas lights.....did this slip by.....that was the fault in the PSU....or more likely not the PSU....but the wiring that he had jamed under the 5v rail on the Power header.
