| Well, from personal experience, I can tell you it's pretty hard to take a fan apart, it's sure as hell not impossible, I've seen many how to's on painting fan blade's, seems like my problem was always "Now remove the clip holding the fan to the casing" :\ I've broken a fan doing it as well. As for leds I assume you're talking about the ones in your case, well, I used ones from Radio Shack, they aren't SUPER bright, but only $3 apiece(My sisters Lian Li comes to mind) but they are certainly ample, and no more squinting to see if my case is doing anything, but if you want wicked bright, Lazerleds seem to be the led of choice 'round this neck of the woods I hope I helped a little. | ||

| When it comes to LED's, look at the mcd ratings -- higher means brighter. The really bright LED's usually are rated somewhere in the several thousand mcd range. Most of the ones you find at the Shack are in the several hundred mcd range, if that. Also, some colors (red, yellow, orange) tend to be available with higher ratings than others (blue, violet). Hosfelt.com has a good selection of bright ones for pretty cheap (scroll down in the left-hand list to "LED's"). Might be better off calling them with your order though (888-264-6464), cause they haven't quite figured out the whole online store thing yet. ![]() | ||

| Decide first on the color of the LED you want. If it's not marked on the package, it's specified as the LED's wavelength as nanometers or nm. You can find out more about different colored LEDs and their availability at The LED Museum. Next, choose the brightness. Typically in LEDs you have to make a tradeoff between brightness and viewing angle--the smaller the viewing angle, the brighter the LED. A really bright LED will have a rating of about 1000-2000 millicandela, or mcd. Anything higher than that is just crazy, not to mention annoying when it's shining at someone at a LAN party. When you've gotten your LEDs at RadioShack, the company FunkyFresh suggested, or somewhere else, post back here with the following information, which is indicated on the LED packaging:
If you want to do it on your own, you can visit Linear's LED Calculator. If you don't want to bother dealing with resistors and soldering irons or even basic electronics theory, places like Directron sell replacements already pre-wired for you. | ||
