Default Creating a case out of aluminum for my xbox

I love my xbox and have it modded and I painted it and the paint job sucks and the stock xbox case doesn't provide enough airflow and is too compact so I have been thinking about building a new case for it. I want a steel metalic look so I am thinking of going with some aluminum and possibly going over it with some sand paper to create the metallic look that is on many mac apps. Anyway, I am really just wondering where could I find some good cheap aluminum online that I could use for such a purpose and what is the best for creating windows and where could I get that.

For the design of it, I want to give it a dvd player type look. Any hints to a new modder?

Well, if you saw the inside, everything is just packed and I have a 7200 RPM hard drive in there that just adds to the heat. My hard drive once became too hot and froze while I was trying to upload something and when I restarted it the F: drive was corrupt and I had to reformat it.

Thanks enko for the link.

i read somewhere that putting anything faster than a 5400 rpm drive won't help performance at all. not sure if it was true or not. make sure you replace the ribbon cable in there though. the stock one is only a ata66 cable . ..

A 7200 RPM drive will at least give you faster seek times if not faster load times, but it probably helps. And anyway, when was the last time you saw a 5400 RPM drive?

what version is your x box? before you try to make your case i would try modding a new fan into the xbox in question. also cut away some of your drive cage to get a little more air flowing around it too.

or just take everything out and put it all in a pc case, and water cool it.

oh you can check mine out here

Whoa... nice freakin job. I have a version 1.0 xbox. I did a piss-poor paint job and I've just been wanting a different case because it would be cool to build one and I would love the look of it then because it would be completely custom. I don't really want to buy a pc case and I don't want to do much work on the case I have right now because I want to leave it intact. I'll try to maybe make a model of the case I want in 3ds max later to give you an idea of what I'm talking about.

For the aluminum why don't you go to lowes or a place like that? They carry it and its always nice to pick out your own sheet rather than somebody else doing it for you, then hoping it arrives at your door in a nice straight peice as well. I was wonder what methods of holding the case together you where planning on using.

I have been planning a metal case for my xbox for a while, the metal has been sitting at my house for a couple months now, but I have been swamped with out work that has to be done first before I have time to mess with that. I was going with steel though because I don't have a good way to bond aluminum (no mig welder for me, just wirefeed).

Regardless, good luck with your box.

Now that be a serious mod I like to see a video game system in a metal case god idea.
