Default wiring LEDs into the power supply

ok, i have some supplies, including two LED assemblies with built-in resistors, and a Disk Drive Y-Adapter Power Cable.

i need to know how to use these to power both LEDs from the main PS, or if i need a different power cable/adapter thingy, any help would be greatly appreciated...

I'd assume your LED assemblies are rated at a particular voltage, and that voltage is +12V DC. In which case all you need to do is splice the assemblied into any yellow wire on your disk drive Y-splitter. If the rating is +5V DC then splice into the red wire. If it's something else altogether then you'll need to specify that so we can discuss how to obtain the required voltage.

ok, ya, it's 12v, 16 max, but how do i "splice" the asemblies into the splitter?

also, there's no yellow one, only an orange (i presume it's the same as the yellow) two blacks and a red...

hmm... ok, i just found out that by touching the red wire on the assembly to the red wire from the splitter and the black wire from the assembly to either of the black wires on the splitter that i get light... and now i realise that i'm going to need way-yy more powerful lights...

Question? Have you ever worked on electronics before? Yes it would be the orange wire as 12v.

Simple instructions: You cut it, strip both ends so the wire shows, connect your LED to both ends, soder and cover either with heat shrink or elevtrical tape.

The RED wire is only 5V not 12V...thus you will not get much light from the LED if it's 12V's

no, i haven't ever worked on "real" electronics, i kinda know closed/open circuits, but i don't know voltage and stuff... i just know how to make a little light turn on when hooked up to a battery...

and even using the yellow/orange wire, it's nowhere near bright enough... i'll just return the LEDs and get a neon lamp or something...

What exactly is it you are trying to acomplish? Super Brite LED's can "Blind" you if you look at them, they are small yet powerful.

DeeChan...the link to your SIG Picture is Broken...FYI

the red one is 33mcd and the green one is 24mcd, but i'm looking for something to light up the inside of my case, not somethign to look pretty on the outside that i'll be looking at directly...

You can always use multiple LED's in a string.

But that's a good thing...be different...place multiples in different areas to create a cool look rather than have just a cc in your case. Come up with some cool lighting effects and impress us all.

I agree with everyones lighting suggetions. However, if your LED's are really in the 20-40 mcd range...they are of no use to you. Bright Led's are 1000-3000 mcd. Quite a difference I would say!

I will probably get flamed for this, but I have a blue and red Lazer LED array in my case. I use both for directional lighting. I have a cold cathode but got two windows so I needed area specific lighting. These bad boys really put out some light! There is no way that I could look directly into the red one, and the blue one with the four LED array is extremely bright.

Yes, I could make this setup myself, but I bought it and got a warranty, it's waterproof (I run water), and comes with all the necessary attachments. So I'm lazy, I like them. Worth it in my opinion. Wixx won't agree with me on this though.

Thumbs up

Radio Shack has a fairly good selection.....you can find most of them in the regular stores also.

Click Here for the 5mm LED page...the higher MCD ones are closer to the top I believe.

Ohhh! Even better! I got a toy store that you will all love. Check out All Electronics .

This is the ultimate candy store for electronic geeks. Not that I am one, of course. Check out the UV LED's, hard to find.

24 mcd's might light up................a drive bay.lol

Id go to radio shack and buy there 2600 mcd blue leds and make a whole line of them if you want to light your whole case.

I have 3 stringed together and they can pretty much light the whole top of my case, if i could get the darn thing to stay lit w/o my psu or mobo shutting down
