| Well, I just installed a CrystalFontz LCD the other day (review coming soon) and I love it.... After getting it running and seeing how versatile it is I wondered why I never got one sooner. From now on my pcs WILL have an LCD in them... Eye-catching and VERY useful for me as I have mine setup with plenty of stat info. You will see inthe forthcoming review. I for one don't think you got crap... Good buy... Now, would I buy this over more ram? No. If you have plenty of ram, are satisfied with your hard drives, cpu, mobo, etc... Then definitely go for the LCD. Very versatile piece of gear. | ||

Bring It On Ninja Boy! Here are some photos that I took to show your "Real LCD" The photos are taken from my 5" Marshall 960x234 LCD with VGA input. The text is barely legitable and winamp looks really bad on it. Warning: the full size photos are 2048x1536 but represent what the LCD truely looks like displaying VGA ![]() Full Size Image ![]() Full Size Image I too wanted to incorporate one of my small LCD's in a PC mod, however I found the results to be far from worth it. I recommend the money is better spent on a good 20x4 line display instead, or maybe a graphical LCD display. These small LCD's just don't display VGA signals well at all and are best left to NTSC. | Want some more? ![]() Here is the Dual VGA set-up ![]() Bigger Image The VGA input still sucks as you can see by the pictures. Text is barely legible. I ran this as an extended desk top with the browser window dragged over to the 5" LCD Monitor. Setting was 640x480, 60Hz, 24 bit color. So how does it look displaying DVD video? Not bad I guess, if that's all a person has. It still has the screen door effect of an LCD and text can be blocky at times. Black levels are not that great. I could not get Power DVD to display the video in the 5" LCD window. So I connected it to my Xbox with a composite out. I know the Xbox may not render an image as good as my console DVD player, however it was the simplist to connect with out tearing apart my system. Bigger Image ![]() Bigger Image There is just a bit of moire in the picture that is not actually present in the LCD's image. It's not excellent, however it is pretty good by 5" LCD standards. Bottom Line, I still would not recommend small LCD's with VGA inputs for PC mods, and think a 4x20 line display would be better, that's just me. LCD just seem to be the in mod right now, regardless of how terrible the image can be. However it's your mod and money so if you must absolutely have it to be cool and all that, knock yourself out! If your talking about "Real LCD's" as in 15" and up, I have those too and would give it up before I gave up my CRT. LCD's look sexy and display text well, so if your web surfing or programing they are sufficent for that. However due to it's limited resolutions of 1024x768 or 1280x1024 they really are useless for CAD or Photo editing. A CRT is the only way to go for they represent colors much more truely. Never mind the poor black levels and streaking that is typically inherent in LCD's. Now your turn, you were saying? Last edited by ViperZ; 16-August-02 at 08:43 AM.. | ||

| w00t!! Everything ViperZ just said(typed??) is absolutely correct, I know, I used to sell LCD panels when I worked for IBM... Sure they look pretty, but like ViperZ said, they suck for CAD, photoediting and most of all GAMES! The just look nasty...and if you don't have the game set at the res the LCD is, it shifts to a corner of the screen at whatever size the game is...is sux As for windows, XP's new cleartype thingy helps a lot, but it's still not perfect...
