Default how to get 4.5v...

some days ago my stereo shorted out, and it kinda died, but i modded the speakers and fed them from the psu (and added a pc speaker volume regulator thingy in a ghetto way), but now i need to get 4.5v to power my discman from the psu, but i have no idea on how to do that, the speakers are great but i dont want to plug them into my computer´s line out, i want them on the discman, cuz i was thinking into either mod it into the left panel of my pc or adding a mechanism for it to pop in and out from the bottom of the case (if i did the mechanism thing i would have to add some stilts or something else to lift the case, maybe some castors) so how do i feed the discman from the psu? and what do you think about my mod idea?
thanks!!

The easiest thing I can think of is to take the +5V from the PSU and run it through a plane-jane silicon diode. That will incur a voltage drop of 0.7V, giving you 4.3V which _should_ be adequate for the discman.

Diodes are available at radio shack for about $0.99 each and are small, black and cylindrical with a grey stripe on one end of the diode, indicating the negative end.

Yeah what Wixx said.

Or you could try getting a cd car kit transfomer with a 4.5v output and hook it to your 12v rail.

4.5 volts 5 volts the disk man isnt sensitive like a cpu or video card and let me guess it uses 3 1.5 volt aa batteries? then have you ever checked a fresh batt on a multimeter? 5 volts should be fine. but i guess you might as well play it safe with the diode voltage drop thing. or a LM????? voltage regulator.

nope it uses 2 1.5 v batteries, but the dc in asks for 4.5v, so i just got a dc connector that fitted and wired it to my psu asi i dont like cables going all the way to the other end of the room
