Question Need Ideas For This One...

Here is my next project...a Packard Bell "Hell" Spectria 200. It's currently got a Whopping 486 inside!!! The Monitor is ATTACHED to the Case as ONE UNIT and the speakers also are attached to the Monitor portion. The Power to the Monitor Powers the Motherboard.

A typical window to see the insides I think would not work because it would weaken the case. I want to try and keep the case, replace the insides, place a seperate PS inside to power the Motherboard, place windows on each side of the Monitor Portion of the case.

Suggestions?

Oh ya.....A lan rig from hell.
If possible flex that puppy out, and a 2 tone gun metal blue on grey metallic fleck.
That sucker just screams "carry me around"

Lessee... I'm thinkin' stealth the drive, paint the actual case like it's a seperate peice from the monitor, run some el-wire across the vents...

Might also get a smoke-gray Plexiglas box, cut the bottom off the front and mount it underneath... then put a CCT in the box and light it (remember to drill a couple holes in the top of the box to let it vent a little). The front plastic shouldn't be supporting anything plexi can't...

Anyway, I think it'd look pretty friggin' sweet that way... but it might be looking better in my mind...

I found something like that at a GHETTO garage sale before LOL.

Would be cool to stip the monitor guts out and make a fish aquarium, or water resovior for OCing the comp underneith. That monitor looks so round...it has to be practically worthless anyways.

Good Ideas So Far!!! It's got potential, but I'm seriously having a mental block on what to do with it. Anyone else with some Ideas?

I want to try and keep that monitor active and useable or I was thinking of Guting it out and replacing it with a better monitor.

HappyCamper: I got it from my brothers new wife, she had it lying around and has not used it in years. I just got back from there wedding in Oregon Sunday. One of my mini trips I took that has kept me away from PR for a while.

Mr Dark: It's too damn heavy for a Lan Box and no way in "Packard Hell" is it designed to be "lugged" around.

Kenny: Yes, The goal is not to do the SSDD (in otherwords SAME **** DIFFERENT DAY)

'Taz, how much did they pay you to take that _thing_ away?

Seriously, that thing is UGLY!

If it was mine I'd do one of three things with it:

Build a huge clay pigeon trap, get the local PD or Army unit round, launch the bugger & shoot the hell out of it (video it for posterity - it would probably win the Turner PRize as a peice of "performance art");

Remove those speaker pods & blank off the holes & the front (possible with plastic welding & lots of body filler), drives etc would go on the side - if I _really_ wanted to make something serious out of it; or

Pull out everything except the screen & what's needed to drive it, remove the top & fit a planter filled with geraniums or something & put it near your front door; the PC bits would go into another box in your house & be used to send a signal showing your house number or name; at Christmas you could play a Santa mpegs, etc.

I'm getting the impression that Kenny's kinda irked that he showed up to the party a little "Johnny-come-lately". Kenny, you gotta realize that many of us have been here for months, even over a year for some. When you've been around for this amount of time, you too will be bored by the SSDD. Now, understandably, you were initially impressed by all this case modding stuff, but after hanging around on this site (with a lot of people who've been around and doing this for a while), you've noticed that there is a small and very vocal group of people who actively dislike all these mods that seem so new and cool to you.

Perhaps, you're upset that this small vocal group is no longer fascinated by the very same mods you are probably planning to do to your case.

I'm sorry, but the small vocal group won't just "shut up" now. People in this group are much like those who pioneered modding by taking a plain, beige computer and doing something crazy to it. Now, they see their unique 'art' reduced to store-bought pre-mod cases, kits galore, and all that jazz, and armies of people everywhere with little skill posting cases that look great and all, but with one major difference--what was once cool is now a mass-produced lucrative business, and modding creativity and art are often no longer required.

I heartily welcome you to the modding community! Go and mod your case any way you like--or buy one that's already modded--as long as you're happy, that's all that matters!

But stop acting like a pouty child whenever someone with that rare creative urge to make something unique spouts out how they hate seeing the "same old this or that". Get used to it.

You may well be in the majority here, but you aren't (yet) one of the people blazing a new trail and advancing this case modding phenomenon. Hopefully one day you might be. If you choose not to be, fine, more power to ya...just stop with the pouty sidelong snide remarks.

i would have to say: lan box, it´s heavy but it looks way more convenient that lugging around a case and a monitor, what do you plan doing with the speakers? maybe adding some blue or purple leds will make them look good, like darksamurai said stealth the drive, and paint it, if you can afford it maybe adding a lcd screen instead...some handles, i know that has been overdone but it would look cool as hell on this...thing...and yes, replace the insides

I say no Blue anything, and no windows. keep the case tructurally sound for hauling. I do see a good handle on top of the box. But not just any handle a recessed handle spring loaded. Like they use on trunks and ammo boxes. . Instead of windows how about large steel screens? The kind that are sturdy and dont rip. You know like the metal screen that goes over the screen door to protect it? Also try reversing the monitor so that you can design this thing upsidedown. This way you can vent the Actual Pc a little better. Maybee some metal fabrication required there. I don't know just some ideas

Kenny...I'm one of those that agree with COEL 100% and I am becoming more vocal about the SSDD. If there is no longer any Unique and Original Ideas in the Mod'n community, then the Mod'n community will die and I for one do not want that to happen.

DW...your on to something...I like the Wire Mesh Idea rather than a regular "Window". I don't know about turning it upside down but I do have to consider cooling.

This is one of those projects that will take sometime to figure out.

Taz, if you replaced the monitor with a flatscreen, and replaced almost all of the guts, then it would be light enough to be carried to a lan. hell even cut out the back of the monitor and hinge it. then you'll have a nice place to put tools or even some cd's or spare parts. you could go one step further, put casters on it, and one of those extendable handles from a luggage tote and you have a lan box on wheels for easy transport, that will hold all your crap.
