Question Is it safe to put a fan on the back of a PSU?

I finally got my two LED fans that I won on ebay 2 weeks ago (crap ebay store), but since then I got two blue LED fans to replace those thinking I would never get them for a while. But now I have them, I might as well use them.

So, on the back of my PSU, there are four holes which are able to put an 80mm fan on. Can I put it on there without having a problem? It'll be hard enough getting it on without taking the PSU out, but it'll help keep the PSU cool...

there should already be a fan on the back of your PSU. Which means you could replace it (this means opening your power supply, which can be dangerous due to still charged capisitors, so do so only if you know what your are doing and what the risks are).

All you need to do pstine, is take out your PSU, take of the cover and replace the existing fan with the LED( as long as they are both the same size) but as Buzz said you will need to be carfull. The fan in your PSU is uslly just a standard 80MM fan

Blah! Maybe I'm not explaining myself clearly.

There's the standard fan on by the on/off switch on the PSU, I'm not going to touch that at all. I'm talking about the part of the PSU that is inside the case, on the opposite end of the on/off switch. There are four screw holes that can have a 80mm fan placed on.

I'll take a pic of it...

This was taken on another spare PSU. Its pretty much the same exact thing:

I think it would only make the cooling process better if you asked me...

EDIT: Well that sucks, netfirms is down.

I think it would look pretty cool too, I haven't seen one person with it in the galleries. I'll give it a go and see how it works out.

Just make sure the fan you put in the pc is blowing air into the PSU to keep airflow going the right way

Good Luck, let us know how it turns out

just adding my two cents, 2 posts talking to someone isn't always a judge of their intelligence, i just add easily forgotten tips to my post, no offence intended on my part.

The Verdict:

It definitely can be done!!... just not right now. I dont have enough light to see what I'm doing and its late and I have to be going to bed.

From what I can see though is that its going to take a while to get the screw into the PSU. It is metal and not as easy to get as the pre-made holes for fans or plastic. I'll do it tomorrow or over the long weekend.
