| Hey now... Just stumbled upon the site while surfin', so I stopped in and regged. Been wanting to mod my case for about 3 years, finally got the time and the loot to do it. Anyway, I just got done putting a full-size plexi window in one side (I cut almost all the aluminum off with a plasma cutter, big funs) and now my brother, who makes neon signs for a living, is going to bend me some for the inside and outside of the case. My question is, will neon interfere with the 'puter, electricity wise? He says it won't throw off much heat, and my case stays at 30 Celsius full-time anyway. This site seems to have a great sense of community, will prolly hang out. As soon as I get access to a digital camera, I'll post the pics. Thanks, ya'll.- BoddahXXX ![]() | ||

| Boddah Boddah Boddah! Welcome to Pimp Rig!!!! Uhm...I don't think the the neon will really interfere with anything, and he's right, it doesn't throw off that much heat. So you should be ok ![]() But you would always want to consider some Cold Cathodes as well or as an alternative. Once again, welcome man and have fun! | ||

| I don't think you saw what I asked you in the other thread. But for neon lights man, your rig is pimpin with that red glow. I had some questions about it. Did you use UV paint in it? what kind? And those cold cathodes, how many you got, what kind you got? That's just about "EXACTLY" what I want the interior of my case to look like. Thanks bro, it's super wicked/!!!! | ||

| Right on. Yeah, I thought about CC's, but I always gotta be different. Plus, I wouldn't have to pay a dime for my lighting. If it goes well, I may have him bend me an AMD logo, and cut a huge window behind my mobo and stick it there. Then, it'll be onto the airbrush... Christ, anything but beige. - BoddahXXX ![]() | ||

| I thought about that, but I cut the window so friggin' big, there's not enough metal left on the inside to mount it. (I wanted the entire side to be plexi, except for my love handles ) I think I'm gonna go with a foot and a half stick of bright-a$$ed purple, maybe red, since the mobo and Geforce are red... Dunno yet. I'm tryin' to get him to make computer neon kits, but I don't know if that's cost-effective for him... Transformers are expensive. ![]() | ||

| Hey Boddah, welcome to your new home! Your custom-made neon lighting sounds like a great idea. The major differences between neon and cathode lighting are that neon DOES put out more heat (but not a major amount), and also that neon lights don't have anywhere near the same life-span as cathodes. As far as temps go...as long as you're not seriously into overclocking (if you were, then temps would be your first priority, not lighting), and you have decent cooling (a good intake fan at the lower front, and one or two exhaust fans, either at the rear or side panel, up high), then you can go crazy with your neon lighting and don't worry about heat. Should look great...what symbol or sign are you gonna make? (Don't tell us, let it be a surprise!) | ||

| Hey now... Thanks for all the feedback, guys. Now I got another question. I have a small (8") dual neon light, runs on 12v. It was originally designed for automotive applications (had it in my dual 12" bandpass box), all's it has for connections is a + and - for 12v... Do you think I could hook that up to my puter power supply, kinda like those fans that plug into the IDE power plugs? I just put a 120mm clear blade blowhole in the top of my machine, and I think it'd look sweet with that lil' neon tucked away next to it. Anyway, any feedback on this is appreciated. Take it easy. I need to go get a digital camera... ![]() | ||

| It's (the inverter) gotta be inside the thing, because when I bought it, it didn't have any external components/accessories, and the instructions just said hook the black wire to -, and the red to +. Works good on a car system, and I figured since inside of comps are 12v, it would match up. You know, this may open up a door to the modding community. Being able to take car modding parts and add them to your PC? I wonder if I could mount a car stereo in a 5.25 bay, run the RCA outputs to my SBLive aux in... Plus, you could have quadraphonic sound from the internal amp of the stereo... Hmm... (Hastily shuts off puter to go rip it apart) Maybe I better try it on my old P3 machine first. If I fry that, who cares? I been looking for a solution to encode my old tapes into digital audio... If I can hook up my Sony car tape deck, I could use that as a source. Also, it'd be like havin a built-in radio in my rig. Cool... Something to do tonite. ![]() | ||

| I don't know what the exact gauges are, but I can get them in just about any size I want... I think the smallest his shop carries is 8 gauge. I didn't exactly mean behind, I meant on the reverse side of the sidewall that the mobo is mounted on. So I'd have windows on both sides. | ||
