| That's what my little sister said after I installed a new fan in her defunct PSU. A Little backstory. The computer she uses was pulled out of a swamp. Yes, a swamp. Whoever dumped it there also had been a chain smoker, and an idiot (five years of tax records anyone?). After leaving it sit in the garage for a few days to let it dry at give all the creepy crawlies a chance to bail out, my brother opens it up to give it an amatuer clean out. Inside we find a P2 class Celeron400, 196mb of ram, and a decent motherboard. Not too bad. Well beign an older, ugly, compact computer, the powersupply was situated sideways, covering the cpu from view. I would later find out that he had not removed the psu to clean behind it. After a week of use, we start to notice that the thing is running exteremely hot. I chalk it up to no fans in the case. Upon further inspection i realise that the entire case it hoot to the touch and the psu is easily 140F, and its fan is dead. Being a good person (and not wanting my house to start on fire) I open it up to replace the fan. What I find is shocking. The cpu heatsink is CAKED in crap. theres so much junk build up between the fins that the fan was unable to move. At the end it took SANDPAPER to get all of it out. So I throw it all back together, with a new cpu fan, and boot it up. Woops... forgot about the psu fan. With all the cleaning, I had freed up the fan so it can move, but it sounds like a goat. Definately needs replacement. I take it apart, remove the old fan, and look for a new fan. All I have available is a tricolor fan. Oh well, its not like i need it. I put it in, and my sister walks in just as I power it on. OH MY GOD, PIMPIN'! Its now the ugliest case in the world WITH a tricolor fan. | ||

Most PSUs use standard sized fans, although maybe not standard connectors. I replaced both the fans in my x-connect with coolermaster LED fans. The only issue was that the fans were 3 pin and the lines from the PSU were 2, little dremel work and some electrical tape and they actually fit together perfectly. ![]()

I ve been to swamps before and found some old coke cans and plastic bottles but never anything electronic, well beat up old radio, but i mean a computer, wow, and the thing worked. Find any dirt on the guy who owned it, or anyhting about him, like where he lived or nething

| Haha. Thanks for the suggestions. I was planning on putting some blowholes in it if it still had an overheating problem, but its colder than cold. ![]() I'd take a picture but really it cleaned up fine, no trace of swamp. I'm assuming you can all imagine an old case with a tricolor fan in the psu. ![]() | ||
