| Apex Techie Wannabe | Ok guys, project coming along nicely. Case painted base colour. Going to stencil the designs on it tommorow. but just wondered if anyone had any tips when it comes to stencil painting. my plan was to print design onto A4. then cut stencil out onto thin carboard. Masking tape edges of stencil onto case. Do i need to mask the edges of design or will i be ok with them loose? gratefull for any help Last edited by Berserker; 07-August-04 at 06:56 PM.. | |

| I see a problem with you using cardboard/paper. I once tried a paperboard stencil on a piece I was painting, and found that the fibers tend to fray out in certain places, and cause the paint to "feather" on the edges. You might look into getting some plastic to makeyour stencil out of. hobby/craft stores usually sell blank stencil sheets that you can use. | ||

| Its not cheap but I have the local sign guy use his vinyl machine to cut me a mask - sticks great and makes everything look A1. Almost looks to perfect, sometimes people think there stickers instead of painted on. A little bit of wetsanding to knock the edges off the design and some clearcoat and your good to go. | ||

| Apex Techie Wannabe | ok guys i used the masking over the top of the stencil, then cutting round stencil technique.seemed to be working fine. But once i peeled back i had similar issues to what cheshire demon mentioned. slight roughness in some small places. but you have to get pretty close to see it. i think next time i'll follow you're advice aaronkelly. although saying that i did enjoy sitting in the sun with a couple of cold beers and working on the stencils ![]() | |
