Who sells true red 4" cold cathodes? I bought a red one from performance pcs and its actually pink, not red.

Fu3lman once used a breaklight from a car if you cant find something red enuff.

You can always wrap a pink cathode several times around with red cellophane from a craft store (secure it with Scotch tape). I've bought two brands of "red" CC's from SVC and both turned out pink, despite the pictures. Neither was the Logisys that Zenn linked to; that one might be fine.

That Logisys is the first red cathode I've seen that actually looks like a heat lamp.
I would go with either that or an array of LED's if you truly want Red.

I tried our local Hobby Stores for red film you speak of...nada. I also thought about Craft Stores and shall check that out this weekend.

If that doesn't source out, I'll buy the SVC offering

Check out a Hallmark store (or other place where you get gift wrap) Wally World has it too. Look for rolls of red cellophane. It'll be in the gift wrap department.

Or you can mix poster paint, its like the thick paint for kids mix it with water say half water half paint annd slop it on it worked for me

I bought mine from Directron and it's red, to me, atleast. Flexiglow red 12".

You need to take a closer look at Bill's work. 'Slop it on' is blasphemy in his presence, especially considering he's likely getting a healthy paycheck for this job.

I went with Red Clearphane film from local craft store (Micheals)

The mod was @ no additional charge to the guy so I was looking for something cheap, but not neccessarily dirt cheap

Sorry to revive an old thread, just though my pain could help someone else down the road. I ordered 2 12" dual red cold cathode kits from xoxide.com hoping that they would match my red led fans. They showed up the other night, I hooked them up and turned them on and BAM orange? wtf? So I called xoxide and they will take them back, but I have to pay for shipping... whatever. I decided to search the forum, which I should have probably done in the first place and found this thread. I read in Zennzzo's post where he said suggested to use the logisys cathodes, so I call svc to ask them if the logisys cathodes would be the same color as red leds, as I do not want to have to pay return shipping again. Well the guy I talked to said that tech support was out to lunch and that I could e'mail them. Anyway so I threw them a line figuring I'll get a response sometime next week and I decide to come on the forum and vent my frustration and tell people not to order those cathodes because they will not match, oh wait I forgot to see what brand they were OH YEAH! Logisys!!! AAARRRGGGHHHH!!! Oh well guess I'll find something else.

have you tried this? might keep you from having to return.

I might try it, but I would rather try it on white cathodes rather than orange, but I still haven't decided. I got the return number, I think they called it a rma, so I have all weekend to ponder it.

i got mine from SVC and they were very pale and pink but..
i got some tape that is made to temporarily cover up broken tail lights, .... two layers of that and they give off a rich red glow.

Thomas, you might want to step down the saturation and contrast in PS. Nice rig, but you aren't fooling anyone with your chopped enhancements.

Its pretty obvious manufacturers are tweeking the hue & saturation on their photos as well

HIGHLANDER brand Red Clearphane 30" x 25' roll costs about $3.00 @ Michaels Craft Stores


Cutting 3-1/4" piece of Red Clearphane film. Wrap around CC bulb and apply Super glue to Clearphane


CC now emits true Red
