Default first "big" mod

ok, i'm finally getting there. going to cut a window in my case. here's a scan of the paper template that i'm going to use (over all heigth will be about 11.5 inches). here's the idea: i'm currently running tt smart leds in my case (2 intake and one on the cpu). all of them use this grill: http://www.frozencpu.com/cgi-bin/frozencpu/flc-36.html
i'm going to cut the window and then use uv paint (probably clear) to paint the eye and nose holes. hopefully, i'm going to come up with a wiring mod that will allow me to turn off the leds in my fans w/o turning off the fans (big thanks to dimazz for the help). then, when i turn on the uv lights, the nose and eye holes will spring to luminescent life (er, i hope). any recommendations on uv paint that will stick to plexi?

instead of painting, which im my opinion would look bad, why dont you epoxy the eyes and nose to the plexi. it would be easier than prepping and painting. just walk down to walmart and buy the epoxy you gotta mix and take a drop of it and glue them babies on.

...you could etch the eyes and nose part of the plexi and lite the window from the edge...Lokie does it like that and there should be a thread or two on the subject...

I agree with Zenn, a red (or other color of choice) LED hitting the etched eye would look damned nice.

If you're not familiar with the process, you evenly sand down the plexi to frost it. Then one of two LEDs placed at the bottom, below the window line, light only the etched part of the plexi, the rest appears unlit (clear).

Example:
This window from the thread Window Design 102 by Lokie.

Question Case Mods

Has anyone considered doing lighting mods with fiber optic cable?
I'm new here and can't figure out if I can start a new thread or where to, but I have an idea..... first off, I've got an antec case with high intensity leds installed in place of the original ones, My monitor sits on one of those bases that is a power bar as well.
Now, what i would like to do is run fiber optic cable from each of these leds to the rear of my case, (making a joining point on one of the unused blank plates for the pci slots) and make some sort of way to join them to fiber optic extention cables that can easily be removed but run up to the front panel of this power bar / monitor base.
this way I can view when my H.D. is grinding away, and see the power led as well. (all in my face with matching colour to the leds on the case without running power)
The cable that I am looking for would be the same sort of thing they used to use to transfer light from one of the dash pannel lights to the ashtray for it's illunination in late 70's chevy camaros and i am sure other models as well. aprox 1/8" clear and has a black casing on it. Run these small babbies through a conduit and i could have as many as i like.

any input on this?

it would work cept it wouldnt be as bright as if your were to run a small line to a LED or some sort. Keep in mind all other resistors would also need to be inline.

I wouldn't want it to be as brite. If the power unit is in line with my face, all i want to see is the h.d. action and to know my pc is on.
i still am trying to find the cable to do it with

Fiber optics have been discussed here before, including where to buy supplies, search the forums. And yes, fiber optics can be very bright with almost no loss as long as you polish the cable ends well.
