| I finally got around to stealing a camera and snapping a few shots of my case. Now you all will have the privilege of seeing my beautiful work of art. A shot of the front. ![]() Sorry about qualityÂ… came out orange due to crappy lighting and the carpet itself being orange. I tried to correct the color as best I could, and I managed to get it close. I stole the cam at a lan party while its owner was sleeping. Gear: This is a Kingwin KW436. Anodized brushed aluminum, factory windows on 3 sides. ItÂ’s a premod, but I fell in love with its looks and superb quality. A quick rundown of what you see in this shot: Drives top to bottom -Lite-on 16x DVD ROM. Nothing special here. -Lite-on 8X +/- DVDRW. Great drive. -Coolermaster Musketeer. I won this for kicking ass in a UT2004 tourney sponsored by Coolermaster. It matches my case well, useless as it may be. -6 switch fanbus from Frozencpu.com. Nice little tool for keeping the noise down at night. -Floppy. -Connectors. Mods: I like the look of the front of this, so I havenÂ’t messed around with it too much. I changed the power and status LEDÂ’s to ultra bright blue. Floppy got a coat of black. A shot of the top. ![]() Also visible in the last pic, hereÂ’s a shot of the most obvious mod IÂ’ve done to itÂ… YET. There used to be a piece of acrylic with a fan in the center where the mesh is now. The fan was drawing precious cool air needlessly away from the hot components, so I killed it. I chose mesh because it allows the case to breath; I can turn every fan off and it wont overheat, unless gaming. The bolts on the mesh are something cool too. Hard to tell in the pics, But they're miniature thumbscrew bolts with an allen head center, in the color of choice, black. I think they're the bee's knees. ![]() Here you can see where that sweet glow comes from. I took a sheet of 1/3†acrylic and cut a center hole to match the hole in the case, and mounted the mesh to the bottom of it. It makes the mesh recessed, which is nice alone, and to top that I mounted a par of ultra bright blue 30cm ccflÂ’s IN the acrylic. It looks much better in person, naturally. The Guts. ![]() All right, the fun stuff. This is the best pic I have of the inside. What you SEE: -A Zalman CPNS7000CU (one word: Incredible) crushing my poor 2.4C, which is happily humming along at 3.2ghz.) -(2x256) OCZ PC4000 Enhanced Latency/Dual Channel matched. Incredible ram. -A mess of wires. Hiding inside that beautiful blue sleeving are the snakes from an Antec TruePower 480, you just canÂ’t go wrong with that power supply. The sleeving was a kit from Vantec, a very nice kit I must saÿ×G had no idea what I was getting into however, cable sleeving is HARD! Also less noticeable are the blue rounded IDE cables running alongside their power giving brethren. ThereÂ’s an orange one in there too, OOPS! forgot about the floppy when I made that order. -WTF IS THAT? I like to call it an 8500XT. ItÂ’s an 8500LE which I beefed up. Those ram heatsinks were made by me from a block of billet with a band saw and a CNC Milling machine. Why did I make them? I couldnÂ’t find good heatsinks for full size (1Ââ€) chips, and it was fun! Running at 275/275, itÂ’s not the most potent card out there, but starting out its 4th year in service it still packs one hell of a punch, and now it looks bad-ass doing it. Sadly itÂ’s due for retirement as soon as I can afford an X800. -D-Link 108mbps wireless XG. -Hard Disks: Two 120GB WD specials on Raid0, and an 80GB WD special for music. -Out of picture: SB Live! 5.1 (pulled for troubleshooting) What you donÂ’t see: -Wires. Lots and lots of wires. You all saw that nice fanbus in the front of my case, right? Even upon close inspection, one would be hard-pressed to find a single wire from it. **Note: that blue ugly wire in the middle of the shot is a thermal sensor, also for troubleshooting at the time. The gray one is an audio pass-through, which at the time of writing (as with the probe) is gone. Other stuff: The fans on the back of the case are attached to the motherboard rack, which is hot removable. The fans connect to the fanbus, but thinking ahead I put some custom made quick-disconnects on them, and can pull my mobo while running. I planned when I wired this baby! Thanks for looking and not-reading my write-up. Comments are appreciated, I wonÂ’t be hurt. Ask all the questions you want and IÂ’ll try to answer. I hope you enjoyed! | Like i said, I was in the middle of trying to ge tthat ****ing corsair 3200 working, (still doesnt) and as a result my immaculate wiring got a little messed. I may be able to steal my friends camera on Tuesday, I'll try. As for the play by play, I can give it a whack but i dont have pictures. Perhaps if im bored and in a good mood later I can illustrate it though. Any interest in that? | ||
