| Hey guys, I used to go by Darkside in this forum a few months ago life got in the way and i ended up missing a site upgrade Not being able to get back into my id (Mods Help) and never being able to finish my Venom Project: http://forums.pcapex.com/showthread....&threadid=8538 I decided for now that i was going to put that project on hold due to lack of ideas on my part and instead to make a Medival case mod made almost entirely of wood I just wanted to know if i was in any danger of setting anything on fire. im not paranoid i had just had forgotten. also if there were any ideas on how to make it quieter with some kind of foam or something id be really happy. Cause my comp screaches like a Mofo. 3 years of screeching has to stop so ive got to sound proof it as well. Well thats all Thanks again guys Russian666 | ||

| Well, you shouldnt have to worry about a fire as long as your wiring and such isnt left open with sparks flying everywhere. As for the sound issue, wood is a pretty good insulator. And as for the screechings, I would say that you need to check on that. New quieter fans would help immensly, and quieter parts such as a Seagate HDD or watercooling would go a long way. | ||

| The flash point of wood is nowhere close to the heat your computer will put out (at least it would no longer be a viable computer when it gets close to that temp.) Paper's flash point is 451 Farenheit (233 C), and I would imagine wood to be similar. That being said, you do understand that wood is an insulator, and you will need to have more fans/cooling in a wooden case as compared to a metal or plexi? | ||

| If you're looking for ideas, I just read an article on an incredible wood-and-plexi case over at Bit-Tech. I'm not sure the resulting style would work with your medieval theme, but there may be some good ideas in there nonetheless: http://www.bit-tech.net/article/115/ ![]() | ||

| Just use some good ol Vantec Stealth fans. You could even put fan controller on it. I wouldnt be worried about the amount of air flowing, but about good airflow circulation. Throw some of your design drawings at us and we can probably show you where heat might be an issue. | ||

| I'm working on some wood case designs myself, and I'd agree with the suggestions of airflow over pure CFM energy. With a wood case, or any case where you decide the dimensions, you have the distinct advantage of being able to use fewer large quiet fans over multiple smaller fans for the same CFM. My suggestion: Use larger fans and make larger vents than stock designs allow. You'll have a quieter rig that cools better. For example, check out the Antec LanBoy or Sonata. As far as fireproofing, check out some of the chemical fireproofing solutions that are used on things like wood shingles. I've found one I will be using that is water-based and non-toxic, and is applied with a simple spray bottle. $16 worth will do a dozen cases. Final tip: I plan to use an aluminum removable mobo tray. Makes things a lot simpler. ![]() | ||

| I've thought about doing a wood case. I'm pretty pimp with a scroll-saw, and I want to scroll an entire case with really elaborate designs all over. Two reasons I haven't done it yet: 1. I'm artistically challenged, so I couldn't draw out what I wanted to cut. 2. The only scroll saw I have access to is in Illinois with my grandfather, and I have to wait till I visit him to use it.
