![]() | First I want to say that I started pc mods before I knew there was a community. I just thought that I was some type of freak for wanting to have something rather then a white box... Now I know that I am not alone. God that feels good to know. I love all the mods I have seen here..you guy rock! Anyway , on with my addition.I am a pc nut but I also love cars, classics to the imports to the exotics... Well after sitting at home one night I came accross the movie 'Christine' on one of the cable channels. During the movie I had a mindblast. Wouldn't it be nuts to have a computer case in the shape of a car front-end? So was born Christine...My personal gaming PC. I started out with this. (True geeks will remember this as the original dual 5 1/4 floppy IBM PC) You can see I was thinking maybe to try out a 'Hot Rod' with flames but decided against the idea... Well after I had a base case I started to get to work with a friend Dave at the basic metel working. Dave does classic car restorations... and since I am a noob with welding, he helped out with that. Some basic metel work, getting the grill fitted (which btw is from a 1960's studabaker hawk), and the headlights installed (which work btw!) I had this.... After getting that basic metel work done (basicly ripping off the front and welding the sheetmetal extentions) I started stripping the paint with an air-driven stone stripper. Well getting that finished I decided I didn't just want the front end, but I wanted a WORKING HOOD, so.... I got out the dremal again and cut out the hood. Dave fabricated a piece of metel that would curve over and complete the hood...that was attached later. You can see one of the picture I found on google of an original 1968 Plymouth Fury in the back ground. The finished hood. I added a hinge, and working prop rod also. After some smoothing and priming I had was almost done. So I needed to let the primer dry, I started on the internals. I ripped out the atx tray from a trash case I had and with just minimal cutting, welding and rivits it easily went in, and holds a full sized atx mobo! To stick with the car theme, I didn't want a regular on and off switch...so...I bought and original starter for a 1968 Plymouth Fury ($30). You HAVE to have the keys to start the computer...just like a real car...oh you can jump start it but only if you can get to the starter ![]() Painting didn't take long at all, although I did the cut and buff method as to get the mirror shine and the ability to wash and wax the cover just like a real car. I added the white stripe just like the original Movie car had. At this point all I needed to do was add the windsheild, and the internals. Not shown here is that I covered the metel behind the grill in a thin black sound deading material. Not that it needed sound deadening as the pc it compleatly liquid cooled. Not satified with just the 'car' I decided I wanted to make it a theme. Well I had used a 'classic case'; the old IBM PC, and I was modeling it after a classic car...so why not go 'old school' and get a old keyboard and speakers to fit it? Well I did. Going to the local thrift store I found this old PS2 Terminal keyboard with 24 Function keys! I rounded the edges of the keyboard a bit and then removed the rough surface with coarse grit sandpaper. A little paint...but I did something different this time. While the case is done in Classic Cherry Red, I added perl or colour-shifting flakes to the paint. Now the keyboard and speakers can shift from deep cherry red to a golden orange (gold fleck really is beautiful in the sun) All finished! 56 hours later I had my completed Car/computer mod....well almost completed. I am replacing the windsheild with an LCD widescreen moniter. The internal specs you ask? AMD 1700XP @ 2.4GHz Thermaltake AQUARIUS-II Liquid Cooling Kit 1.5GB DDR Kingston PC-3300 (heat sinked) 80GB Barracuda HDD ASUS A7N8X-Deluxe nForce2 ver 2.0 Creative DVD-RW ATI Radeon 9600XT Labtec 6.1 Surround Sound (The Painted speakers are mainly for show. they work but I want Full surround when I play NWN, Desert Combat, or I am watching a movie or listening to music) Saitek X-45 Flight stick combo All parts but case bought from PCHERTZ.COM I will post internal pics when I get my digital camera back from my sister. What you don't see is how cool the water cooling looks as I mounted the radiator where the car radiator is.....front and center. Also added 'purple' cold cathodes for the internal lights which really works well for the 'possessed' car/computer theme and added the 50's-60's feel in the same look. Now I am working on a Hummer case, and almost finished with the the green Eclipse from Fast and Furious. The case is done and what is really neat (I think) is I added not only a scaled down version of the vinal graphic the original movie car had, but I added the manufacture logo vinals like some tuner guys have on their doors. Now the only difference is instead of Greddy, AEM, Sparcco and NOS, I instead have the logos for ASUS, KINGSTON, AMD, COOLERMASTER and such. I also put hi-rise standoffs on the bottom of the case and added 4 green cold cathodes....simulates ground effects. My buddys have joked about starting a 'car case club' with me... I can build these cases to sell starting around $100 for a basic painted car case (this is a basic car...no vinals, no tuner effects) to $400-$500 for a tuner car with all the trimmings. Thanks for letting me share this with you! I |

![]() | Thank...it makes a guy feel good when his hard work is praised. Just remember if you want a car case I'd be more then happy to build one for ya! Actually they work but I need the digital camera back from my sister to show them...basicly I am 'banned' from using them at the lans since they are the white lazer L.E.D's...and with the reflectors they almost look like the HID head lights on some tuner cars. Hard to take a picture that isn't completely washed out or has bad corona effects.....but I'll try again. Last edited by Bschott; 30-December-03 at 09:25 PM. Reason: reply to question |

![]() | actually I was quite ill at the time I was making this mod (got pnemonia or whatever), but I was so pumped I just stuffed myself on advil, cold medication, and bawls. When that picture was taken I had been up for 31 hours. I acutally went to bed after cleaning up the shop, and slept for 12 hours. Ever gotten up the next day after finishing a mod, seeing it and just breaking out in a silly ass grin, thinking, "DAMN! *I* did that!" Pretty cool high if you ask me. |

| 5-Hoe-1 Jeans | wholy crap, that's one of the most pimp rigs I've seen on here. Although I think the effect would have been better if you had as many fans as you could in there. You know, like hearing an engine roar. But I guess that would get old after a while. Fantastic job, man, I wish more people did crap like this |

![]() ![]() ![]() | Awesome man, purely awesome. Everything just goes together, except for the color of the keys on the keyboard Very well done and is actually original! At least, I haven't seen anything like it. Keep up the sweet work, the next few projects you have going will be cool to see also.BTW, could you take some pictures of the insides now that you're done? Also, to take a picture of the headlights all you have to do is turn off the lights, and then turn off the flash on the camera. Hopefully that works |
