| outstanding job, for your first attempt at C/M . Only thing I dont like , but understand why you did it is the tape I see around the cuts you made. Maybe find some edging rubber to make it cleaner. Other that that , 100% impressed !! | ||

| I usually steer clear of threads where I think the bottom line is nothing much more than a cry for attention, but I don't see that to be the case here. Ok, here's how this is going to go down: One pic at a time, I'll tell you what I see (like /dislike), what I don't see (should / shouldn't), and if there is anything to be done to improve... PIC #1: The power/LED/etc wires coming down from the top front of the case, good that they seem to be out of the airflow channels, maybe some sleeving to pretty it up, and/ or some cable tie kits to anchor them if they are just hanging there... The fan wire for the CPU cooling fan... Sleeve that sucker! With a little practice, you can remove the wire leads from the molex connector, and sleeve the individual wires, then bunch the three and sleeve them together. You can also take a little time to measure the length of wire that you will need to keep as much as possible OUT of the area in front of the motherboard (where it usually shows up like a sore thumb, sleeved or not) Perhaps adding a ltitle bit of length to the fan wires would allow you to route it to the top of the mobo tray, then around the right side edge of the mobo, so that it comes up over that unused IDE connector... PIC#2: Same as above about the CPU cooling fan... Question about the holes for PSU cables (bottom center of the mbo panel, then along the sides, etc): did you cut those yourself, and if so, why tape around the edges? Some U-channel edge molding would keep the wires safe from anny jagged edges, plus look times better, unless your purpose in mind is to build a "ghetto rig"... Actually, if you cut them, you could use a small file to get rid of the jaggies and whatnot, and the edge molding would cover up any imperfections quite nicely... Same for the rear fan... sleeve it, run it completely out of sight if you can... PIC#3: Same as #1 and #2... The window panel fan cable can definitely afford to be sleeved. if you have to have the large 4-pin molexes, maybe routing them around the inside front of the case where they are out of direct sight whenever someone looks in through the window... Bottom line: For a first-time job, I would go so high as a 7.5 out of 10. Definite room for improvement, but you seem to already have a pretty good start on things... just a little more work and people won't believe you actually have wires in there... | ||

| Apex Techie Wannabe | For a first attempt... outstanding job!! I agree with what the others have said about the sleeving. Get some cheap molex plug tools and remove the wires from the plugs. Makes sleeving much, MUCH easier. As for the side panel fan.... my personal solution when running side fans is this.... and is VERY easy!!... You "MAY" have to make the fan wires a bit longer for this... but is well worth it.... 1) Run the fan wires from the psu or fan controller around the front of the case at the very bottom. all the way to were they will meet the bottom front corner of the side panel. 2) Visit your local Radio Shack or other electronics supply shop and pick up a micro contact switch. 3) Mount one half of the switch on the bottom corner of the case in front of the bottom front corner of the side panel. 4) Mount the other half of the switch to the bottom front corner of the side panel. --Note-- This takes some mesuring to get the proper positions, but the end result is WELL worth it! 5) run the fan's wires over to the the EDGE of the side window and down the side, just out of view and attach to the half of the contact switch that you mounted there. Conclusion.... when the side panel is on, the two pieces of the switch contact each other and complete the wiring. Benefit.... No wires can be seen running to the side window fan... AND... no wires to unhook or remove in order to fully remove the side panel. Hope this all makes sense to you. It is easier to show than it is to tell, but i actually don't have a build here at my house right now with this set-up. Best of luck and keep on modding! Ken | |
