Default Is it possible to...

I have 3 spare cc's that I wont be putting in my case. Id like to light up my desk though! I know a few people have done something similiar to that. Is it possible to splice the 2pin molex connectors to an AC plug? I have a surgestation and theres an open spot for them. I wont need the togle switch that they came with but what of the inverter?

EDIT: I know you dont plug them directly INTO a wall outlet, duh! Thats why I was asking about the inverter. sheesh.

Yeah thats right, just plug the CC's directly into the wall outlet. Have a fire extinguisher nearby.

I'd just power it with a ten buck crap PSU. Since AC to DC converters cost more than that anyway.

DO NOT hook up your CC's to an AC PLUG!

Computer powersupplies output 12Volts DC and Lower. What you need is another Power Supply that you can use to power your lights externally. I have made one.

Again...

DO NOT hook up your CC's to an AC PLUG!

awww geeze man......i'm sorry, didny mean to hurt your feelings.
but serously \, why did you think you could wire up a cathode(s) into120v AC? think about it. 12VDC vs. 120VAC BIG DIFFERENCE!! yeah i know that the inverter takes the voltage up to who knows, but that is at a very little amperage, with 120 you can have split second peak amps of over 4000 - 5000 depending where you are. and although people get shocked by that everyday the possibility still exists that of you wire something up wrong you can be barbequed, i know what it is like to be revived because of electric shock.......grabbed 2 legs fo 480 3phase one time......never again.

The output of your average CC invertor is 600VAC, so no, you can't do away with the invertor & power the tube directly from the mains.

Edit: is that what you were asking?

Neon String on the other hand ... the invertors for that typically output 130VAC ... so that's a maybe... if you're on 110V mains & very careful.

radio shack: 12V transformer

or go to wal-mart in the auto dept. look for the rice burner neon lights and there should be a 120vac to 12vdc transformer with car cig lighter leads on them, cut off and rewire for CCs
